Ishirō Honda
was a Japanese filmmaker who directed 46 feature films in a career spanning five decades. He is acknowledged as the most internationally successful Japanese filmmaker prior to Hayao Miyazaki and one of the founders of modern disaster film, with his films having a significant influence on the film industry. Akihiko Hirata
, known professionally as , was a Japanese film actor. He is known for his work in the ''kaiju'' genre, including such films as ''King Kong vs. Godzilla'', '' The Mysterians'', '' Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla'', '' Terror of Mechagodzilla'', and his most famous role of Dr. Daisuke Serizawa, the brilliant but disturbed young scientist in the original ''Godzilla'', released in 1954. He starred in many movies, including Hiroshi Inagaki's ''Samurai'' trilogy. Hirata was married to actress Yoshiko Kuga from 1961 until his death. He died at age 56 in 1984 after a long battle with lung cancer. Early life Hirata was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1927, into a wealthy family. Mariko Okada
is a Japanese stage and film actress who starred in films of directors Mikio Naruse, Yasujirō Ozu, Keisuke Kinoshita and others. She was married to film director Yoshishige Yoshida. Biography Okada was born the daughter of silent film actor Tokihiko Okada (real name Eiichi Takahashi), who died the year following her birth, and raised by her mother's sister in her early childhood. She gave her film debut in Mikio Naruse's 1951 ''Dancing Girl (1951 film), Dancing Girl'', for whom she worked again in ''Husband and Wife (1953 film), Husband and Wife'', ''Floating Clouds'' and ''Nagareru''. Unsatisfied with the roles she was assigned to, she left Toho studios after her contract expired, and signed with Shochiku. Tomoyuki Tanaka
was a Japanese film producer, best known as the creator of Godzilla. He produced most of the installments in the ''Godzilla'' series, beginning in 1954 with ''Godzilla'' and ending in 1995 with '' Godzilla vs. Destoroyah''. He was one of the most prolific Japanese producers of all time, having worked on more than 200 films, including over 80 ''tokusatsu'' films and six of Akira Kurosawa's films, notably Yojimbo and Kagemusha. Ryō Ikebe
was a Japanese actor. He graduated from Rikkyō University and originally wanted to be a director, but ended up debuting as an actor at Tōhō in 1941. He did not achieve popularity until starring in a series of youth films in the late 1940s. He expanded his acting range in the 1950s, while still frequently appearing in genre films, such as Tōhō tokusatsu films and yakuza films at Tōei. He was also known as an essayist. On 8 October 2010, he died of blood poisoning. He was 92 years old.
