Stephen Cummings
Stephen Donald Cummings (born 13 September 1954) is an Australian rock singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer of Melbourne-based rock band the Sports from 1976 to 1981, followed by a solo career which has met with critical acclaim but has had limited commercial success. He has written two novels, ''Wonderboy'' (1996) and ''Stay Away from Lightning Girl'' (1999), and a memoir, '' Will It Be Funny Tomorrow, Billy'' (2009). In 2014 a documentary film, ''Don't Throw Stones'', based on his memoir premiered as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival. Steven John Kilbey (born 13 September 1954) is an English-Australian singer-songwriter and bass guitarist for the rock band the Church. He is also a music producer, poet, and painter. As of 2020, Kilbey has released 14 solo albums and has collaborated on recordings with musical artists such as Martin Kennedy, Stephen Cummings and Ricky Maymi as a vocalist, musician, writer and/or producer. Ian McFarlane writes that "Kilbey's solo recordings rechallenging and evocative. ''Escapist'' is the eighth studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Stephen Cummings. The album was released in September 1996. Cummings said "The story behind the recording of ''The Escapist'' is interesting, I can only liken it to having a 21st birthday party. You invite along all your friends and abruptly realise just how dissimilar your friends are. You start to despair and fret they won't come together and be friendly. In the end, common sense prevailed." At the ARIA Music Awards of 1996 the album was nominated for ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album. The Church (band)
The Church are an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with new wave, neo-psychedelia, and indie rock, their music later came to feature slower tempos and surreal soundscapes reminiscent of dream pop and post-rock. Glenn A. Baker has written that "From the release of the 'She Never Said' single in November 1980, this unique Sydney-originated entity has purveyed a distinctive, ethereal, psychedelic-tinged sound which has alternatively found favour and disfavour in Australia." The ''Los Angeles Times'' has described the band's music as "dense, shimmering, exquisite guitar pop". Shane O'Mara (musician)
Shane O'Mara is an Australian musician and record producer. He worked with Stephen Cummings as a member of Stephen Cummings' Lovetown, Good Humour and the Stephen Cummings Band and co-produced the albums ''A New Kind of Blue'' (1989), ''Good Humour'' (1991) and ''Unguided Tour'' (1992). He played with Chris Wilson in the Chris Wilson Band which released an EP, ''The Big One'', in May and a studio album, ''Landlocked'', in June 1992, and he backed Wilson in ''Live at the Continental'' (October 1994). He formed Rebecca's Empire with then partner Rebecca Barnard (also part of Cumming's backing bands). They released two albums, ''Way of All Things'' (1996) and ''Welcome'' (1999) (both produced by O'Mara) before breaking up in 2000. Toni Childs (born October 29, 1957) is an American-Australian singer-songwriter. She is best known for her songs "Don't Walk Away" (a ''Billboard'' Hot 100 hit in the United States in 1988), " I've Got to Go Now", a Top 5 hit in Australia in 1991, and the Emmy-winning "Because You're Beautiful" (released as a single in 2004, and featured on her 2008 album ''Keep the Faith'').
