The Falkland Islands has officially used Falkland Islands Standard Time (FKST, UTC−03:00) all year round since 5 September 2010. However, many residents of Camp (all areas of the Falkland Islands outside the main city) use UTC−04:00, known in the Falklands as 'Camp time' (as opposed to 'Stanley time' or 'Government clocks'). The Falkland Islands previously used Stanley Mean Time (UTC−03:51:24) until 11 March 1912, when Falkland Islands Time (FKT, UTC−04:00) came into effect. FKT was then used all year round until 25 September 1983, when Falkland Islands Summer Time (FKST, UTC−03:00) was first introduced for the summer period of the year. A Fastest Known Time (FKT) is the speed record for a running, hiking or cycling route. Unlike most endurance sports competitions such as marathon world records, FKTs are self-organized and done alone or in small groups. FKTs are most popular on long trails suitable for thru-hiking or ultramarathon trail running such as the Appalachian Trail, the Pennine Way, and the John Muir Trail. History Informal, unverified speed records have long existed on named trails, but the invention of handheld GPS devices, such as GPS watches or personal locator beacons, made it significantly easier and more reliable to collect and compare fastest times on a route even in the backcountry. FKT Algorithm
The Fisher–Kasteleyn–Temperley (FKT) algorithm, named after Michael Fisher, Pieter Kasteleyn, and Harold Neville Vazeille Temperley, Neville Temperley, counts the number of perfect matchings in a planar graph, planar graph in polynomial time. This same task is Sharp-P-complete, #P-complete for general graphs. For Matching (graph theory), matchings that are not required to be perfect, counting them remains #P-complete even for planar graphs. The key idea of the FKT algorithm is to convert the problem into a Pfaffian computation of a skew-symmetric matrix derived from a planar embedding of the graph.
