FENIX Museum Of Migration
The FENIX Museum of Migration is a museum dedicated to human migration, located within the former Fenix warehouse in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It was opened on 16 May 2025. The museum’s inaugural exhibitions are ‘All Directions: Art That Moves You’, which will feature works by Francis Alÿs, Cornelia Parker and Do Ho Suh, and ‘The Family of Migrants’, an exhibition inspired by Edward Steichen’s The Family of Man, Family of Man at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, which will present 194 photographs on the subject of migration. FENIX is funded by the Droom en Daad Foundation, founded in 2016 and led by former Rijksmuseum director Wim Pijbes. In May 2025, the museum welcomed its 100,000th visitor, marking over 100,000 visits in the first two months of its opening. Katendrecht
Katendrecht is a neighbourhood of Rotterdam, on the south bank of the Nieuwe Maas. It is located between the Rijnhaven (Rotterdam), Rijnhaven and the Maashaven. Katendrecht was a separate municipality from 1817 to 1874, when it merged with Charlois. The neighbourhood covers an area of 1,18 km² with 4,760 inhabitants. Wim Pijbes
Willem Meint Jans "Wim" Pijbes (born 9 October 1961) is a Dutch art historian and emeritus general director of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Pijbes' initiatives at the Rijksmuseum include the museum's complete refurbishment and reopening in April 2013 and the opening of the Philips Wing for photography and temporary exhibitions. In addition he developed and opened RIJKS®, the museum's restaurant. With the reopening of the Rijksmuseum, Pijbes also launched Rijksstudio; the first digital application to offer images of the museum's collection to everyone, free of charge. The Family Of Man
''The Family of Man'' was an ambitious exhibition of 503 photographs from 68 countries curated by Edward Steichen, the director of the New York City Museum of Modern Art's (MoMA) department of photography. According to Steichen, the exhibition represented the "culmination of his career". The title was taken from a line in a Carl Sandburg poem. ''The Family of Man'' was exhibited in 1955 from January 24 to May 8 at the New York MoMA, then toured the world for eight years to record-breaking audience numbers. Commenting on its appeal, Steichen said, "The people in the audience looked at the pictures, and the people in the pictures looked back at them. They recognized each other." The physical collection is archived and displayed at Clervaux Castle in Edward Steichen's home country of Luxembourg, where he was born in 1879 in Bivange.
