Express Media
Express Media is an Australian literary youth arts organisation, founded in 1983. Originally called Express Australia, the organisation is currently listed on the Register of Cultural Organisations. It presents an annual program of special events, workshops, exhibitions and artistic projects throughout the year, to generate opportunities for young and emerging artists. The flagship project is '' Voiceworks'' magazine, and author John Marsden (writer) is the organisation's patron. Projects Express Media is responsible for the following community development projects: * The John Marsden Prize for Young Australian Writers. A total prize pool of $3500 is offered across four categories. Voiceworks (journal)
''Voiceworks'' is a national quarterly print magazine based in Melbourne, Victoria, featuring work by Australian writers and artists under the age of 25. Production The magazine is produced by the editor together with a designer, an intern and a volunteer editorial committee (EdComm), all of whom are also under twenty-five. This committee assists the editor in reading submissions, editing content, proofreading, running launches, and writing feedback for all contributors. From around issue 12 onwards (there is no complete archive), ''Voiceworks'' began to be published as a quarterly, 80-page magazine. Then, from issue 98 onwards the format changed to its current smaller, 128-page format. It has now published more than 100 issues. John Marsden (writer)
John Marsden (born 27 September 1950) is an Australian writer and unlicensed alternative school principal. Marsden's books have been translated into eleven languages. While working as a teacher, Marsden began writing for children, and had his first book, ''So Much to Tell You'', published in 1987. Since then, he has written or edited over 40 books and has sold over 5 million books throughout the world. In 2006, Marsden started an alternative school, Candlebark School in the Macedon Ranges. Marsden has since reduced his writing to focus on teaching and running the school. In 2016, he opened the arts-focused secondary school, Alice Miller School, also in the Macedon Ranges. He is also the patron of youth media organisation Express Media. He has no academic education in pedagogy and is not state licenced. Melbourne Fringe Festival
The Melbourne Fringe Festival is an annual independent arts festival in Melbourne, Australia, usually over three weeks from late September to early October. Held since 1982, the Festival includes a wide variety of art forms, including theatre, comedy, music, performance art, design, film, cabaret, digital art, and circus. Over 300 shows are held at over 100 venues from bars, clubs and independent theatres to high-profile locations. The festival is open-access and artists produce shows independently. Melbourne Fringe also funds and produces its own free events. History The Fringe Arts Network was formed in 1982, aiming to raise public and government awareness of alternative arts in Melbourne. 3RRR (pronounced "Three Triple R", or simply "Triple R") is an Australian community radio station, based in Melbourne. 3RRR first commenced broadcasting in 1976 from the studios of 3ST, the student radio station of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (now RMIT University), on an educational licence with the name 3RMT. In 1979 it relocated to Fitzroy, and adopted its present name. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, it became synonymous with the post punk and new wave subcultures. Student Youth Network Inc., operating as SYN Media , is an Australian youth-run not-for-profit organisation providing media training and broadcasting opportunities for young people. Commonly referred to as SYN, the organisation produces new and independent media that is made by and for young people in Melbourne. Founded in 2000, today volunteers – all aged 12–25 years of age – produce a radio station broadcast on FM radio and DAB+ digital radio, as well as content for television, print and online. Christos Tsiolkas
Christos Tsiolkas is an Australian author, playwright, and screenwriter. He is especially known for '' The Slap'', which was both well-received critically and highly successful commercially. Several of his books have been adapted for film and television. Early life Tsiolkas was born and raised in Melbourne with his Greek immigrant parents, and was educated at Blackburn High School.
