Euregiobahn
Euregiobahn is a system of regional trains (RB 20) in the combined area of the ''AVV (Aachener Verkehrverbund)'' at the Aachen (district), Düren (district) operated by DB Regio NRW. History The historical predecessors of ''Euregiobahn'' were the first 2-hour-interval ''City Express'' trains between Heerlen and Aachen of the ( Sittard–Herzogenrath railway) and (Aachen–Mönchengladbach railway), which were introduced in 1992 to replace the Maastricht–Aachen railway. As the first stage of the ''Euregiobahn'' regional rail system, the service from Heerlen in the Netherlands, Herzogenrath, Kohlscheid and Aachen to Stolberg (Rhineland) came into operation in June 2001 until December 2015. The section from Stolberg - Hauptbahnhof to Stolberg-Altstadt was reopened to passengers, including the ''Stolberg-Altstadt'' station (formerly ''Stolberg (Rhineland) Hammer'') and the stations at ''Stolberg Rathhaus'' and ''Stolberg Mühlener Bf''. Cologne–Aachen High-speed Railway
The Cologne–Aachen high-speed line is the German part of the Trans-European transport networks project ''high-speed line Paris–Brussels–Cologne''. It is not a newly built railway line, but a project to upgrade the existing railway line which was opened in 1841 by the Rhenish Railway Company. When it was continued into Belgium in 1843, it became the world's first international railway line. The line inside Germany has a length of about . The first from Cologne to Düren have been rebuilt. Langerwehe Station
Langerwehe station is a station in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the Cologne–Aachen high-speed railway. It is in the centre of Langerwehe in the district of Düren, about 25 km east of Aachen. History The station was built in 1841 to coincide with the completion of the railway from Cologne to Aachen. The two-story central section of the station building dates from this period. Since the line originally served particularly freight traffic between the Belgian city of Antwerp and the Rhineland, a freight house was also established, which was partly used for the temporary storage of wood for the nearby coal mines of the Aachen district. Mönchengladbach–Stolberg Railway
Euregiobahn in Eschweiler-Nothberg The Mönchengladbach–Stolberg railway was opened by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company (german: Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, BME) and built in sections between 1870 and 1875. Herzogenrath station is the most important railway station in the city of Herzogenrath, Städteregion Aachen, NRW, Germany. Sittard–Herzogenrath Railway
The Sittard–Herzogenrath railway is a railway line running from Sittard in the Netherlands to Herzogenrath in Germany, passing through Heerlen. The line was opened in 1896. History The line was nationalized in 1899. In World War II, cross-border passenger traffic was stopped on the line. In 1992, the first passenger trains began running on the line at 2-hour intervals as a ''City Express'' from Aachen to Heerlen. As the first real stage of the transnational regional rail system Euregiobahn in June 2001, the connection from Aachen to Heerlen via Herzogenrath was introduced.
