Etna-Troy Township is one of nine townships in Whitley County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,889 and it contained 921 housing units. History Etna Township, which was annexed by Whitley County from Noble County in 1860, merged with its neighbor to the south, Troy Township, in 1951. Geography According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of , of which (or 97.64%) is land and (or 2.36%) is water. Lakes in this township include Goose Lake, Indian Lake, Little Troy Cedar Lake, Loon Lake, Mud Lake, New Lake, Old Lake, Rine Lake, Robinson Lake, Scott Lake, Tadpole Lake, Troy Cedar Lake and Winters Lake. A civil township is a widely used unit of local government in the United States that is subordinate to a county, most often in the northern and midwestern parts of the country. The term town is used in New England, New York, and Wisconsin to refer to the equivalent of the civil township in these states; Minnesota uses "town" officially but often uses it and "township" interchangeably. Lorane, Indiana
Lorane is an unincorporated community in Etna-Troy Township, Whitley County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History The community used to have three different names before the present-day name of Lorane. It was first called Steam Corners, so named after its steam-operated sawmills. It also used to be called Glory, so named after a legend about a local traveler who "went through Glory" after crossing a stream and seeing beautiful scenery. The community also had the name Buzzards Glory at one point. Indiana State Road 5
State Road 5 (SR 5) is a north–south state road in the US state of Indiana. Its southern terminus is at SR 22 in Upland, and the northern terminus is at SR 120 just north of Shipshewana. The state road runs for just over , passing through five counties in northern Indiana, mostly through rural farm fields and small towns. The largest city along its path is Huntington. It is entirely a surface highway that is very rural outside of the towns. SR 5 runs along two dams the first being J. Edward Roush Lake Dam and the second being the Wilmot Dam. Dating back to the early days of the state road system, SR 5 was first signed in the southern part of the state in the 1920s. During the 1930s, the highway was moved to northern Indiana, before being moved very soon after to its current alignment. The road was extended to the Michigan state line in the late 1930s.
