Erland Frisvold
Erland Frisvold (May 13, 1877 – August 22, 1971) was a Norwegian colonel, civil engineer, and mayor of Harstad. Frisvold was born at the farm Kjæstad in Lom, Norway, the eldest child of Pål Erlandsson Frisvold (1846–1912) and Anne Rolvsdotter Blakar Frisvold (1850–1937).Steenstrup, Bjørn. 1968. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1899, and from the Norwegian Military College in 1902, and then served as the civil engineer for Harstad from 1908 to 1911. He served as mayor of Harstad from 1911 to 1912 and again from 1926 to 1929. During the Second World War, he commanded Infantry Regiment No. 12, taking part in the Battles of Narvik. He died on August 22, 1971 and is buried in Oslo's Western Cemetery (''Vestre gravlund''). Lom is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Gudbrandsdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Fossbergom. Vestre Gravlund
Vestre Gravlund is a cemetery in the Frogner borough of Oslo, Norway. It is located next to the Borgen metro station. At , it is the largest cemetery in Norway. It was inaugurated in September 1902 and also contains a crematorium (''Vestre krematorium'') and chapel (''Gravkapellet''). The grave chapel was constructed in granite and clay stone and was designed by architect Alfred Christian Dahl (1857–1940). It was built in 1900 and consecrated in 1902. Battles Of Narvik
The Battles of Narvik were fought from 9 April to 8 June 1940, as a naval battle in the Ofotfjord and as a land battle in the mountains surrounding the north Norwegian town of Narvik, as part of the Norwegian Campaign of the Second World War. The two naval battles in the Ofotfjord on 10 April and 13 April were fought between the British Royal Navy and Nazi Germany ''Kriegsmarine'', while the two-month land campaign was fought between Norwegian, French, British, and Polish troops against German mountain troops, shipwrecked Kriegsmarine sailors and German paratroopers (''Fallschirmjäger'') from the 7th Air Division. Although defeated at sea off Narvik, losing control of the town of Narvik and being pushed back towards the Swedish border, the Germans eventually prevailed because of the Allied evacuation from Norway in June 1940 following the Battle of France. Paal Frisvold (born 1908)
Paal Frisvold (22 January 1908 – 16 March 1997) was a Norwegian general, who was head of the Norwegian Army from 1961 to 1966. Personal life Frisvold was born in Harstad, the son of Erland Frisvold (1877–1971) and Valdis Kaarbø Frisvold (1882–1961). In 1936 he married Kirsten Semb. Career Frisvold finished his ''examen artium'' in 1928, graduated as a military officer in 1932, and from the Norwegian Military College in 1934. He was made a lieutenant in the infantry from 1932, and served as a trainee with the General Staff from 1935 to 1938. From 1938 to 1940 he was secretary at the Ministry of Defence. Frisvold was among the group of central persons who developed military resistance in Norway in 1940 and 1941, eventually leading to the formation of Milorg. In March 1941 he had to flee to Sweden.
