Erkki Kurenniemi
Erkki Juhani Kurenniemi (10 July 1941, Hämeenlinna, Finland – 1 May 2017, Yleisradio, 1 May 2017. Helsinki) was a Finnish designer, philosopher and artist, best known for his electronic music compositions and the electronic instruments he has designed. He is considered to have been one of the leading early pioneers of in Finland. Kurenniemi was also a science populariser, a futurologist, a pioneer of media culture, and an experimental film-maker. Tombstone Valentine
''Tombstone Valentine'' is a studio album released by Wigwam in 1970. While the previous album '' Hard 'n' Horny'' was more of a jazz influenced album, ''Tombstone Valentine'' in one of their more pop-ish albums. The album sounds more like the records of the "Deep Pop" era ('' Nuclear Nightclub'', '' Lucky Golden Stripes and Starpose'') than the records of the progressive rock era (''Hard 'n' Horny'', '' Fairyport'' and '' Being''). This is the first album with Pekka Pohjola in the band, replacing bassist Mats Huldén. Guitarist Nikke Nikamo also left after ''Hard 'n' Horny'', but a permanent replacement for him couldn't be found, so Jukka Tolonen of Tasavallan Presidentti plays guitar on some of the tracks. ''Tombstone Valentine'' represents the sound they forsook for the next two progressive albums, ''Fairyport'' and ''Being''. Henrik Otto Donner
Henrik Otto Donner (16 November 1939 – 26 June 2013) was a Finnish composer, musician and all-round music personality. His musical styles varied from pop and rock music to jazz, electronic music and contemporary classical music. Donner's personal instrument was trumpet. He was a member of the famous Finland Swedish Donner family. Donner was one of the pioneers of Finnish avant-garde and experimental music as well as an important figure in Finnish left-wing "song movement" of the 1960s and 1970s. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and later in Vienna as a student of György Ligeti. In 1966 Donner was one of the founders of record label Love Records which was a pioneering label in Finnish rock music. ''Rakkaus tulessa'' is the thirty-eighth album by Finnish experimental rock band Circle (Finnish band), Circle, a collaboration with Finnish electronic music pioneer Erkki Kurenniemi. The album was released in July 2011 to coincide with Kurenniemi's seventieth birthday. The vinyl-only album marries together two recordings - vocals by Kurenniemi recorded in 1972, and Krautrock-style music by Circle from 1999. The two elements were subsequently "mashed-up" (as the sleevenotes describe it) by Circle bassist and bandleader Jussi Lehtisalo and longtime Circle sound engineer Tuomas Laurila. The album was co-produced by filmmaker Mika Taanila who in 2002 made a documentary film on Kurenniemi, called ''The Future Is Not What It Used To Be''. Circle (band)
Circle is a Finnish experimental rock band formed in Pori in 1991. Their eclectic, ever-changing style has been associated with genres such as krautrock, heavy metal, progressive rock, and ambient. On some albums they have defined themselves as New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal (NWOFHM). Biography Circle was formed in 1992 by bassist and singer Jussi Lehtisalo, the only member who has been in the band throughout its career. Circle's krautrock-style debut album '' Meronia'' was released in 1994 and featured lyrics in a made-up language. A trio of albums, ''Andexelt'' (1999), ''Prospekt'' (2000), and ''Taantumus'' (2001), brought them international attention. ''documenta'' is an exhibition of contemporary art which takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. The ''documenta'' was founded by artist, teacher and curator Arnold Bode in 1955 as part of the Bundesgartenschau (Federal Horticultural Show) which took place in Kassel at that time. It was an attempt to bring Germany up to speed with modern art, both banishing and repressing the cultural darkness of Nazism. This first ''documenta'' featured many artists who are generally considered to have had a significant influence on modern art (such as Picasso and Kandinsky). The more recent editions of the event feature artists based across the world, but much of the art is site-specific.
