Eric Singleton Campbell (born April 9, 1987), nicknamed "Soup", is an American professional baseball utility player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners, and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hanshin Tigers. Early life Campbell was born on April 9, 1987, in Norwich, Connecticut, the younger of two children to Hugh Baird "Duke" Campbell and Amy B. Campbell (née Burgess). His father was a school principal at the Norwich Free Academy as well as a baseball and basketball coach, while his mother, a 1977 NFA graduate, served as assistant principal and principal at Hebron Elementary School until her 2015 retirement after previously having spent 27 years working in Preston School District at Preston Veterans School in a variety of roles, including as a onetime principal-designee. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. Gary Andrew Carignan (born July 23, 1986) is a former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball for the Oakland Athletics. Amateur career Born in New London, Connecticut, Carignan attended high school at Norwich Free Academy where he played with Eric Campbell and was named Connecticut's top baseball player in 2003 after leading the team to a state championship. He played college baseball for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Wally Backman
Walter Wayne Backman (born September 22, 1959) is an American former Major League Baseball second baseman. He is best known for his time with the New York Mets from – and was a member of their 1986 World Series-winning team. He was also the former manager for the Las Vegas 51s, the Mets' AAA minor league team, from 2013 to 2016. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are an American Minor League Baseball team based in Binghamton, New York. The Savannah Sand Gnats were a minor league baseball team based in Savannah, Georgia. They were a member of the A-level South Atlantic League. The Sand Gnats were an affiliate of the New York Mets in their final nine seasons. The team relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, in 2016 where they are now known as the Columbia Fireflies. Brooklyn Cyclones
The Brooklyn Cyclones are a Minor League Baseball team of the South Atlantic League and the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets. They are based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, and play at Maimonides Park, just off the Coney Island Boardwalk. From their founding in 2001 through 2020, the Cyclones competed in the Class A Short Season New York–Penn League (NYPL). Brooklyn won six division titles and two NYPL championships.
