In coding theory, the weight enumerator polynomial of a binary linear code specifies the number of words of each possible Hamming weight. Let C \subset \mathbb_2^n be a binary linear code length n. The weight distribution is the sequence of numbers : A_t = \#\ giving the number of codewords ''c'' in ''C'' having weight ''t'' as ''t'' ranges from 0 to ''n''. Linear Code
In coding theory, a linear code is an error-correcting code for which any linear combination of codewords is also a codeword. Linear codes are traditionally partitioned into block codes and convolutional codes, although turbo codes can be seen as a hybrid of these two types. Linear codes allow for more efficient encoding and decoding algorithms than other codes (cf. syndrome decoding). Linear codes are used in forward error correction and are applied in methods for transmitting symbols (e.g., bits) on a communications channel so that, if errors occur in the communication, some errors can be corrected or detected by the recipient of a message block. The codewords in a linear block code are blocks of symbols that are encoded using more symbols than the original value to be sent. Hamming Weight
The Hamming weight of a string is the number of symbols that are different from the zero-symbol of the alphabet used. It is thus equivalent to the Hamming distance from the all-zero string of the same length. For the most typical case, a string of bits, this is the number of 1's in the string, or the digit sum of the binary representation of a given number and the ''ℓ''₁ norm of a bit vector. In this binary case, it is also called the population count, popcount, sideways sum, or bit summation.
