Enrico Celio
Enrico Celio (19 June 1889 – 23 February 1980) was a Swiss lawyer, politician and journalist, a member of the Conservative Party, State Councilor and Federal Councilor. He was elected to the Federal Council of Switzerland on 22 February 1940 and handed over office on 15 October 1950. He was affiliated to the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland. During his office time he held the Department of Posts and Railways and was President of the Confederation twice in 1943 and 1948. Biography Enrico Celio was born in Ambrì, a hamlet of Quinto, as the second son of Emilio Celio, a school inspector and of Maria Danzi. He attended the Salesian gymnasium in Balerna and received his high school diploma at the Jesuits in Milan. He graduated in literature and philosophy at the University of Fribourg in 1915. Ambrì
Ambrì is a Swiss village in the municipality of Quinto, Leventina District, Canton of Ticino. Geography Ambrì is located in the Leventina Valley, upon the southwestern shore of Ticino river and below the Lepontine Alps, next to the neighboring village of Piotta. Other villages close to Ambrì are Rodi and Fiesso. It is 2 km far from Quinto, 7 from Airolo and 50 from Bellinzona. Sports The village is known throughout Switzerland for being home to National League (NL) team HC Ambrì-Piotta, that plays in the 6,500-seat Valascia, but is set to move into a new arena by 2021. Ambrì is also a popular area for hiking. Transport Ambrì also has its own airport, Ambrì Airport. The airport was a military one until 1994. Now it hosts events, flight school and more. Giuseppe Motta (29 December 1871 – 23 January 1940) was a Swiss politician. He was a member of the Swiss Federal Council (1911–1940) and President of the League of Nations (1924–1925). He was a Catholic-conservative foreign minister and a staunch opponent of communism and Stalinism. Biography He was born on 29 December 1871. The president of the Swiss Confederation, also known as the president of the Confederation or colloquially as the president of Switzerland, is the head of Switzerland's seven-member Federal Council, the country's executive branch.
