Emdrup is a neighbourhood straddling the border between the Bispebjerg and Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located between Utterslev Mose in the west and the Helsingør Motorway in the east, just south of the border with Gladsaxe and Gentofte municipalities. Emdrup is a mainly residential neighbourhood, boasting a combination of apartment buildings and areas with single-family detached home. Emdrup station is located on the Farum radial of the S-train system. AU Campus Emdrup, Aarhus University's Copenhagen campus, is situated just north of the station. The most important greenspaces are Lake Emdrup with its small lakeside park in the east, Utterslev Mose in the west and Emdrupparken with sport facilities in the north. Lake Emdrup
Lake Emdrup (Danish: Emdrup Sø) is a lake located on the border between Copenhagen and Gentofte municipalities in the Emdrup area of northern Copenhagen, Denmark. It is fed mainly with water from Utterslev Mose to the west and Gentofte Lake to the north and drains into St. Jørgen's Lake in central Copenhagen through a system of pipes. The small Emdrup Lake Park is situated at the southwestern corner of the lake. The lake and park were protected by the Conservation Authority in 1963. History The lake was created artificially when a dam was built on Emdrup Stream (Emdrup Bæk) to improve the supply of water to Copenhagen. The water was instead led through Lygteåen to the Ladegård Canal and into St. Jørgensen's Lake. AU Campus Emdrup
AU Campus Emdrup is Aarhus University's campus in Copenhagen, Denmark. Situated in Emdrup, just north of Emdrup station, it was created when the Danish University of Education (Danmarks Pædagogosike Universitet, DPU) was merged with Aarhus University in 2007. An expansion of the campus is planned and it will in the future also host activities within the areas of biosciences, energy and environmental studies. History The campus traces its history back to 1872 when the teacher training college Blaagaard Seminarium moved to the site. It had been founded by the educator Jeppe Tang at Blågårdsgade (No. 14) and already moved several times. The school was destroyed by fire but rebuilt in 1879. It closed in 1913 and the buildings were then left empty until they were purchased by Copenhagen Municipality in 1917. Emdrup Station
Emdrup station is a commuter train station on the Farum radial of the S-train network in Copenhagen, Denmark. Local landmarks include Aarhus University's Copenhagen campus and Emdrup Lake. History The station was not one of the original stations on the Slangerup Station. The station opened on 20 April 1906. The station building was one of the smallest on the rail line and of the same type as the one on Hareskov Station. At the time of its opening, it was still surrounded by open farm land. The station only attracted few passengers due to competition from the tram lines to nearby Bispebjerg but was of more importance as a freight station due to a lumberyard at the site. The station was closed on 31 March but reopened as an S-train station on 25 September 1977. Søholm (country House)
Søholm is a listed Neoclassical house overlooking Lake Emdrup in Hellerup in northern Copenhagen, Denmark. The current main building and a three-winged , thatched stable on a nearby site were both constructed in 180608 for the Jewish merchant Joseph Nathan David to designs by Christian Frederik Hansen. The main building was listed in the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1918. History Oruguns The first country house on the site was established by cassier in the Danish Asiatic Company Jacob Holm in 1773. The house was located in a small woodland on the shore of Lundehussøen as Emdrup Lake was known in that day. Holm resided at Søholm in the summer time until he was arrested for fraud in 1785. Hareskovbanen
Hareskovbanen (English: ''the Hareskov line'') is one of six radial S-train lines in Copenhagen. It connects the city center to a number of northwestern suburbs and the cities of Værløse and Farum, with the terminus placed in the latter. History The line was opened in 1906 as part of the private ''København-Slangerup Jernbane'' which went to Slangerup, about two thirds from Farum to Frederikssund. Its terminus in Copenhagen was København L, close to present day Nørrebro station on the S-train ring line - the station building of this station still stands. Carl Theodor Sørensen
Søren Carl Theodor Marius Sørensen (24 July 1893 in Altona, Hamburg, Germany – 12 September 1979 in Copenhagen, Denmark) was a Danish landscape architect who is considered to be one of the greatest landscape architects of the 20th century. A contemporary of Thomas Church, Geoffrey Jellicoe and Luis Barragán he was a leading figure in the first generation of Modernists in landscape design. He is best known for designing the first Adventure playground (in partnership with Hans Dragehjelm) in Emdrup, Copenhagen. Career Sørensen was a prolific author producing eight books, editing two volumes and writing hundreds of articles. Only one short book has been translated into English and another into German and Dutch. His books covers open space in urban life, horticulture, the history of garden art, principles of garden design, education and autobiography. Utterslev Mose (English: Utterslev Boglands) is a large semi-natural area of lakes, reed beds and parkland located on the border between Copenhagen and Gladsaxe municipalities, approximately six kilometers northwest of central Copenhagen, Denmark.
