A reservoir (; from French ''réservoir'' ) is an enlarged lake behind a dam. Such a dam may be either artificial, built to store fresh water or it may be a natural formation. Reservoirs can be created in a number of ways, including controlling a watercourse that drains an existing body of water, interrupting a watercourse to form an embayment within it, through excavation, or building any number of retaining walls or levees. In other contexts, "reservoirs" may refer to storage spaces for various fluids; they may hold liquids or gasses, including hydrocarbons. Embalse, Córdoba
Embalse is a city in the center-west of the province of Córdoba, Argentina, located within the Calamuchita Valley, 119 km south-southwest from Córdoba City. The municipality has 15,000 inhabitants as per the , though unofficial counts including the neighboring areas give a population of over 30,000, which grows by several thousands during the tourist high season. The word ''embalse'' means "reservoir" (i. e. artificial lake) in Spanish. Embalse is located along the eastern shore of a large reservoir produced by the damming of the Río Tercero. The dam was inaugurated in 1930; it is 58 m high and 125 m long, with a maximum capacity of 730 million m³. The reservoir has an area of 58 km² and is employed for fishing, irrigation and the production of hydroelectricity, as well as water sports.
