Emanuele Cavalli
Emanuele Cavalli (1904–1981) was an Italian painter belonging to the modern movement of the Scuola Romana (Roman School). He was also a renowned photographer, who experimented with new techniques since the 1930s. Biography The son of Apulian landowners, Cavalli moved to Rome in 1921, where he became a student of the Italian painter Felice Carena, also attending a local art college. In 1926 he exhibited some paintings at the Biennale di Venezia, where he would continue to exhibit regularly. From 1927 to 1930, Cavalli attended some exhibitions together with the painters Giuseppe Capogrossi and Francesco Di Cocco, also travelling to France (1928), where he was introduced by his friend Onofrio Martinelli to the circle of ''Italiens de Paris'' (i.e., De Pisis, De Chirico, Savinio and others). Lucera
Lucera ( Lucerino: ) is an Italian city of 34,243 inhabitants in the province of Foggia in the region of Apulia, and the seat of the Diocese of Lucera-Troia. Francesco Di Cocco
Francesco Di Cocco (1900 – 1989) was an Italian painter belonging to the modern movement. Biography He was born in Rome to Florentine parents. After a brief spell in the Army while in Albania in 1919, he returned to Rome, where he was influenced by Giacomo Balla, and spent time in the studio of Leonardo Castellani. He exhibited at the 3rd Biennale Romano in 1925, the next year in Milan at the first exhibition of the Novecento Italiano. He would travel to Paris. He continued to exhibit throughout the following decades in Italy and abroad. In 1938, he accompanied a personal exhibition at the Comet Art Gallery in New York City. He was recruited to paint murals for Italian pavilion designed by Andrea Busiri Vici at the 1939 World's Fair. In music, counterpoint is the relationship between two or more musical lines (or voices) which are harmonically interdependent yet independent in rhythm and melodic contour. It has been most commonly identified in the European classical tradition, strongly developing during the Renaissance and in much of the common practice period, especially in the Baroque period. Primordialism
Primordialism is the idea that nations or ethnic identities are fixed, natural and ancient.Jack Hayward, Brian Barry, Archie Brown (2003) p 330 Primordialists argue that each individual has a single inborn ethnic identity independent of historical processes. While implicit primordialist assumptions are common in society and much academic research, primordialism is widely rejected by scholars of nationalism and ethnicity, as individuals can have multiple ethnic identities which are changeable and socially constructed. Roberto Melli
Roberto Melli (1885–1958) was an Italian painter and sculptor to the ''Scuola Romana'', and active in Ferrara and Rome. Short biography Born in Ferrara from a Jewish family of traders, in his twenties Melli moved to Genoa to start an apprenticeship as an engraver and thereby discovered his artistic talent. He began an activity as xylographer, befriending painter and etcher Giorgio De Vincenzi, also from Ferrara. In 1910 Melli moved to Rome, where he shared a studio with sculptor Giovanni Prini. Tonalism
Tonalism was an artistic style that emerged in the 1880s when American artists began to paint landscape forms with an overall tone of colored atmosphere or mist. Between 1880 and 1915, dark, neutral hues such as gray, brown or blue, often dominated compositions by artists associated with the style. During the late 1890s, American art critics began to use the term "tonal" to describe these works, as well as the lesser-known synonyms Quietism and Intimism. Two of the leading associated painters were George Inness and James McNeill Whistler. Tonalism is sometimes used to describe American landscapes derived from the French Barbizon style, which emphasized mood and shadow.
