Elte, North Rhine-Westphalia
Prior to 1975, Elte was, with approximately 1,300 residents, a self-standing, political community under the authorities of Rheine. On 1 January 1975, Elte became integrated with other communities within the town of Rheine, 9 km from the centre of Rheine town. Elte still has character of a rural location situated between Emsaue and the countryside. It is now officially named Rheine-Elte. The name "Elte" is first mentioned in a document from the year 1154. In the "Codex traditionum", which is kept in the State Archives in Münster, is in Volume VI page 181 read: "Bishop Werner of Münster" founded in 1140 an Augustinian monastery in Asbeck. The noble Eppo of Burgsteinfurt gave this monastery two mansions (farms), located in parochia Rene in villa quae "Elethe'dicitur". The linguists interpret all place and field names ending in èthè and èdè as heathlands. The vernacular then gave the village the name "Elte" over time. Rheine
Rheine () is a city in the district of Steinfurt in Westphalia, Germany. It is the largest city in the district and the location of Rheine Air Base. Geography Rheine is on the river Ems, approx. north of Münster, approx. west of Osnabrück and east of Hengelo (Netherlands). Countryside
In general, a rural area or a countryside is a geographic area that is located outside towns and cities. Typical rural areas have a low population density and small settlements. Josef Pieper
Josef Pieper (; 4 May 1904 – 6 November 1997) was a German Catholic philosopher and an important figure in the resurgence of interest in the thought of Thomas Aquinas in early-to-mid 20th-century philosophy. Among his most notable works are ''The Four Cardinal Virtues: Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, Temperance''; ''Leisure, the Basis of Culture''; and ''Guide to Thomas Aquinas'' (published in England as ''Introduction to Thomas Aquinas''). Life and career Pieper studied philosophy, law and sociology at the universities of Berlin and Münster. After working as a sociologist and freelance writer, he became ordinary professor of philosophical anthropology at the University of Münster, and taught there from 1950 to 1976. As professor emeritus he continued to provide lectures until 1996. With his wife Hildegard, he translated C.S. Matthias Weischer
Matthias Weischer (born 1973 in Elte, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany) is a painter living in Leipzig. Weischer is considered to be part of the New Leipzig School. Life Matthias Weischer studied painting from 1995 to 2001 and received his MA in 2003 from Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) in Leipzig. He was a student in the master class of Professor Sighard Gille. In 2002, he was a co-founder of the artist-initiated gallery LIGA in Berlin that was run by eleven former HGB students, among them Christoph Ruckhäberle, Tim Eitel, David Schnell and Tilo Baumgärtel. LIGA was closed after two years in 2004. After cooperating with Galerie Kleindienst (Leipzig), Anthony Wilkinson (London) and EIGEN + Art (Leipzig/Berlin) Weischer is currently represented by König Gallery (Berlin) and Grimm Gallery (Amsterdam).
