Elgeseter
Elgeseter is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the western part of the borough of Lerkendal. It is south and east of the river Nidelva, south of the neighborhoods of Midtbyen and Øya, west of Singsaker and north of Nardo. The name comes from ''Helgeseter'', the name of Helgeseter Priory, an Augustinian abbey located at Elgeseter during the Middle Ages. Elgeseter is the centre of technology in Trondheim, housing both St. Olavs Hospital, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and parts of Sør-Trøndelag University College. In area is zoned for labour-intensive jobs, resulting in a number of technology companies being at Elgeseter. In addition there is some housing in the area. At the southern end of Elgeseter is the stadium for the Norwegian Premier League team Rosenborg, Lerkendal Stadium. Elgeseter Bridge
Elgeseter Bridge ( no, Elgeseter bru) is a bridge in the city and municipality of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the European route E6 highway which passes over the ''Nidelva'' river and connects Prinsens street in the Midtbyen area of Trondheim with Elgeseter street in the Elgeseter area of Trondheim in the south. The Trondheim city council decided on 17 March 1949 that the bridge should be built. Elgeseter bridge was opened in 1951 after a construction period of 2 years. Trondheim Tramway
The Trondheim Tramway in Trondheim, Norway, is the world's most northerly tramway system, following the closure and dismantling of the Arkhangelsk tramways in Russia. It consists of one 8.8-km-long line, the Gråkallen Line, running from St. Olav's Gate in the city centre through Byåsen to Lian Station in Bymarka. Background Numbered Line 1, it is operated by Boreal Bane, a subsidiary of Boreal Norge and is often simply called the Gråkallen Line (Gråkallbanen). Gråkallbanen operates five tram cars, out of a total rolling stock of nine articulated tram cars built by Linke-Hofmann-Busch in 1984. In addition heritage cars from the Trondheim Tramway Museum are available for chartered tours. Helgeseter Priory
Helgeseter Priory or Elgeseter Priory (''Elgeseter kloster'') was a medieval era house of Augustinian Canons in what is now the neighborhood of Elgeseter in Trondheim, Norway. History The monastery was founded by Archbishop Eystein no later than 1183, and rapidly assumed political importance. It was situated across the river Nidelven from Nidaros Cathedral. The priory was connected to the cathedral by Elgeseter Bridge, making it possible for the canons to perform their duty in the cathedral choir. In May 1240, Duke Skule Bårdsson was killed outside this monastery. He had been attacked by the Birkebeiners in Nidaros, and after wandering for a couple of days took refuge in Helgeseter. The Birkebeiners set fire to the monastery and forced Skule out again, whereupon they killed him together with his son Peter. The priory was suppressed during the Reformation in 1537. Elgeseterlinjen
The Elgeseter Line ( no, Elgeseterlinjen) was a tramway line in Trondheim Tramway between Trondheim Torg and Elgeseter. The tram line was built in 1913, expanded in 1923 and abandoned in 1983. It was used by Line 2 operated by Trondheim Sporvei, later Trondheim Trafikkselskap, though part of the line was used by Singsaker Line. History Trondheim got its first tram in 1893, and by 1913 an expansion was constructed between the city center and Magnus den Godes Street. At the same time a branch line was built to Trondheim Central Station from Olav Tryggvason's Street. The new line went from the station via the city to Elgeseter. In 1923 the line was expanded to Dalsenget and a depot was constructed there. Lerkendal () is a borough in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The borough was established on 1 January 2005 in a municipal borough reform that reduced the number of boroughs in the city. The borough of Østbyen lies to the east, Midtbyen lies to the northwest, and Heimdal lies to the southwest. The boroughs oversee health, welfare, and education for their residents. The borough is located south of Gløshaugen and Elgeseter, west of Berg, north of Tempe and mostly east of the river Nidelva. Øya is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is situated the borough of Midtbyen, just east of Elgeseter. The neighborhood consists of a peninsula formed by the river Nidelva. Midtbyen is a borough of the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The borough comprises much of the city centre of downtown Trondheim plus part of the Bymarka rural areas to the west. Location Midtbyen proper is located north and west of the river Nidelva, south of the Trondheim channel and east of the neighborhood of Ila, thus being north of Øya and Elgeseter, west of Bakklandet and south of Brattøra. Rosenborg Ballklub, commonly referred to simply as Rosenborg () or RBK, is a Norwegian professional association football, football club from Trondheim that plays in Eliteserien (football), Eliteserien. The club has won a record 26 league titles, a shared record 12 Norwegian Football Cup titles and have played more UEFA matches than any other Norwegian team.
