Schubert is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly covering an area of 2,017.8 km². It is named after Max Schubert, the winemaker of Penfolds Grange Hermitage. The Barossa Valley area was first represented by the seat of Barossa. The seat of Custance was abolished and recreated as Schubert in the 1994 redistribution and first contested at the 1997 election. Ashton Hurn
Ashton Morgan Hurn is an Australian politician. She has been a Liberal member of the South Australian House of Assembly since the 2022 state election, representing Schubert. She replaced Stephan Knoll, who had held the seat since 2014. He had beaten Hurn in party pre-selection then. For the four years before her election, Hurn had been Director of Media and Communications for premier Steven Marshall. Family and personal Hurn's family has lived in the Barossa Valley region for over 170 years. Hurn is the granddaughter of Brian Hurn who had been mayor of Barossa Council for 18 years and previously played state-level cricket. Electoral District Of Custance
Custance was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1985 to 1997. Until the 1991 electoral redistribution, the district stretched from just outside Port Pirie in the north to the Barossa Valley in the south. John Olsen moved from the abolished Rocky River to Custance at the 1985 election. Custance was abolished and replaced by Schubert at the 1997 election. Stephan Knoll
Stephan Karl Knoll (born 1982) () is an Australian politician who represented the South Australian House of Assembly electorate of Schubert for the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia from the 2014 state election until the 2022 election. Knoll served as the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government and as the Minister for Planning in the Marshall Ministry between 22 March 2018 and 26 July 2020 and as the Leader of Government Business in the South Australian House of Assembly between 5 February 2020 and 26 July 2020. Ivan Venning
Ivan Howard Venning (born 26 December 1945) is an Australian politician and was the Liberal Party member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1990 until 2014. He did not re-contest his seat at the 2014 state election. Venning was one of five children and the eldest son to Howard and Shirley Venning. Howard himself entered state parliament at the 1968 election and served for 11 years. Venning attended Crystal Brook Primary School and Prince Alfred College in Adelaide, and worked on the family farm until 1966, when he was called up for National Service, serving in the Royal Australian Artillery as a gunner, operator and batman to the Commanding Officer III Battery. Williamstown is a small South Australian town on the southern fringe of the Barossa Valley wine-growing region. It is 51 km north east of Adelaide and 16 km south-east of Gawler. Williamstown was originally known as ''Victoria Creek''. The township was laid out in 1858 by Lewis Johnston, or Johnstone, on land he purchased in 1857, and named for his son. History The town is named after Joseph Wasley, who arrived in the colony of South Australia in 1838. After having been a successful miner at Burra in South Australia as well as the Victorian goldfields, he took up five sections in the Hundred of Mudla Wirra (which had been established in 1847), known as the Mudla Wirra Forest. Tanunda, South Australia
Tanunda is a town situated in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia, 70 kilometres north-east of the state capital, Adelaide. The town derives its name from an Aboriginal word meaning ''water hole''. The town's population is approximately 4600. The postcode is 5352 Settlement Prussian immigrants who arrived with Pastor Gotthard Fritzsche founded the village of Bethanien in 1842, the first settlement in the vicinity of today's Tanunda. Springton, South Australia
Springton is a settlement in South Australia. At the , Springton had a population of 607. It draws its name from Springs Dairy which was on the site before the town subdivision was surveyed. There is a large hollow red gum tree on the outskirts of the town. This tree was used as the first home in South Australia of Friedrich Herbig when he migrated from Germany in 1855. He married three years later and his first two children were born in the tree before he built a hut nearby in 1860. The tree is known as the ''Herbig Family Tree''. Springton includes the former village of Friedensberg less than two kilometres south of the Springton township. The village had a Lutheran church (1861–1899), school (1861–1913) and cemetery. Lyndoch is a town in Barossa Valley, located on the Barossa Valley Highway between Gawler and Tanunda, 58 km northeast of Adelaide. Nuriootpa ( ) is a town in South Australia and the major commercial centre of the Barossa Valley, about an hour's drive north of the state capital, Adelaide. The name of the town is reputed to be the local Aboriginal word for "meeting place". Eden Valley is a small South Australian town in the Barossa Ranges. It was named by the surveyors of the area after they found the word "''Eden''" carved into a tree. Eden Valley has an elevation of 460 metres and an average annual rainfall of 716.2mm.
