Eino Jutikkala
Eino Kaarlo Ilmari Jutikkala (24 October 1907 – 22 December 2006), until 1931 Rinne, was a Finnish historian, and professor of history at the University of Helsinki from 1950 to 1974. He had an exceptionally long and prolific career, and is considered one of the most important Finnish historians of the 20th century. Jutikkala was born in Sääksmäki. He wrote mainly about collective phenomena in history, focussing on social and economic history. His main contributions are in the areas of early modern period economic history and historical demography. His methodological innovations are also thought to have greatly improved the quality of local history research in Finland. Eino Penttilä (27 August 1906 – 24 November 1982) was a Finnish javelin thrower who won a bronze medal at the 1932 Summer Olympics, behind teammates Matti Järvinen and Matti Sippala. Career Penttlä was a Biathlon competitor who changed to javelin throw at the age of 15. He won the national title in 1926–1928, and set a new world record in October 1927. He was a favorite at the 1928 Olympics, but finished sixth due to an elbow injury. After that he lost domestic competitions to Matti Järvinen Matti Henrikki Järvinen (18 February 1909 – 22 July 1985) was a Finnish javelin thrower. Eino Ilmari Oksanen (7 May 1931 – 10 August 2022) was a Finnish marathon runner who won the Boston Marathon three times (1959, 1961 and 1962). Eino Luukkanen (4 June 1909 – 9 April 1964) was a Finnish fighter ace in World War II. He scored 56 confirmed victories, becoming Finland's third highest ranking ace. He flew the Fokker D-21, Brewster B-239 Buffalo, and Bf 109G.Keskinen 1978, p. 12-15. Luukkanen was born in Jaakkima, Finnish Karelia, on 4 June 1909. His father was a railway employee. Eino Leino (born Armas Einar Leopold Lönnbohm; 6 July 1878 – 10 January 1926) was a Finnish poet and journalist who is considered one of the pioneers of Finnish poetry and a national poet of Finland. His poems combine modern and Finnish folk elements. Much of his work is in the style of the ''Kalevala'' and folk songs in general. Nature, love, and despair are frequent themes in Leino's work. He is beloved and widely read in Finland today. Eino Arvid Lehtinen (10 April 1900 – 2 January 2007) was a soldier, teacher and writer. A the age of 106 years and nine months, he was one of the last surviving veterans of the Finnish Civil War, and one of the oldest people in Finland at the time of his death. Lehtinen served with the White Guard, of iconic Finn Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, during the Finnish Civil War of 1918, after the country had declared independence from the Soviet Union. Endel Laas (29 August 1915 in Tartu – 1 November 2009) was an Estonian forest scientist and professor. Laas specialised in forestry and taught at the University of Life Sciences for many years. In 1999 he was awarded the Order of the White Star, third class. Life and career Endel Laas was born on 29 August 1915 in Tartu as the ninth child in the family.
