Eileen Derbyshire
Eileen Derbyshire, MBE (born 6 October 1931) is an English retired actress, best known for her role as Emily Bishop in the long-running ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. She played the character for 55 years from January 1961 to January 2016 (with a brief cameo in October 2019), making her the longest-serving female cast member in a British TV soap opera. She is the mother of sports journalist Oliver Holt. She was appointed an MBE in the 2010 Queens Birthday Honours list for her long acting career. Early life Derbyshire was born in Urmston, Lancashire, and from age 17 was appearing in plays broadcast on radio. Eileen Rodgers (July 10, 1930 – July 13, 2003) was an American singer and Broadway performer. Career Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1930, she began her career as a nightclub performer, later singing as lead vocalist with Charlie Spivak's orchestra. She later recorded more than 30 singles and two LPs for Columbia Records, her most successful single being " Miracle of Love" in 1956, which reached number 18 and 24 respectively, on the '' Billboard'' and '' Cash Box'' pop charts. Her Broadway debut was in 1959's ''Fiorello!'', where she sang the show-stopping "Gentleman Jimmy". In 1960, she appeared in '' Tenderloin''. Two years later, in 1962, she headed the off-Broadway revival cast of Cole Porter's ''Anything Goes'' in the role of Reno Sweeney, a recording of which is currently available on CD. Eileen Pollock (18 May 1947 – 19 December 2020) was a Northern Irish actress whose work included political theatre, pantomime, and the role of Lilo Lil in television series ''Bread''. Early life Pollock was born in Belfast, and studied languages at Queen's University Belfast. Before her acting career she was a technical translator, working in London. Her first theatrical work was as ASM at the Bush Theatre, London. Eileen McCallum, MBE (born 2 December 1936) is a Scottish actress who is best known for playing the part of shopkeeper Isabel Blair through the complete run of soap opera '' Take the High Road'' from 1980 to 2003, and as Liz Hamilton from 2005 to 2018 in the BBC Scotland soap ''River City''. Career McCallum appeared in Glasgow drama ''Just Another Saturday'' in 1975. She then gained her first major soap role in ''Garnock Way'' playing Jean Ross from 1976 to 1979. ''Garnock Way'' was axed to be replaced by '' Take the High Road'', which was first aired on 19 February 1980 with McCallum taking one of the lead roles as village storekeeper Isabel Blair through the programme's full run from 1980 to 2003.
