Edward Reynolds (American Politician)
Edward Clayton Reynolds (1856–1938) was an American lawyer and politician from Maine. Reynolds was born in Braintree, Massachusetts and grew up in portion of Cape Elizabeth, Maine that is now South Portland. He was one of the first 4 graduates of what is now South Portland High School in 1877. He earned a Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University Law School in 1886. A Republican, Reynolds served from 1889 to 1897 as Register of Probate for Cumberland County, Maine. The Maine Senate is the upper house of the Maine Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. The Senate currently consists of 35 members representing an equal number of districts across the state, though the Maine Constitution allows for "an odd number of Senators, not less than 31 nor more than 35". Unlike the lower House, the Senate does not set aside nonvoting seats for Native tribes. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine Senate usually have outside employment as well. The Maine Republican Party is an affiliate of the United States Republican Party in Maine. It was founded in Strong, Maine, on August 7, 1854.
