Edward Partington, 1st Baron Doverdale
Edward Partington, 1st Baron Doverdale (28 September 1836 – 5 January 1925) was an English industrialist. Partington was born in Bury, Greater Manchester, the son of Sarah Partington and David Livsey, a blacksmith, and arrived in Glossop in 1874. He, with his partner William Olive, bought the Turn Lee Mill from Thomas Hamer Ibbotson. He bought it to try out a modern method of paper manufacture using the sulfite process. He expanded rapidly with mills in Salford and Barrow in Furness. He merged with Kellner of Vienna and was created Lord Doverdale in 1914. His factories in Charlestown created nearly a 1000 jobs. He employed a thousand workers in his Charlestown Mill, 1 in 12 of the working population. He was a Unitarian and a Liberal. He was a Deputy Lieutenant of Derbyshire. Oswald Partington, 2nd Baron Doverdale
Oswald Partington, 2nd Baron Doverdale (4 May 1872 – 23 March 1935) was a Liberal Party politician in the United Kingdom. Career The second but oldest surviving son of mill-owner Edward Partington (who became the 1st Baron Doverdale), Oswald Partington was born in Bury. Educated at Rossall School, he held a commission in the 4th (Militia) Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment. He was a justice of the peace for the counties of Cheshire and Worcestershire, and a Deputy Lieutenant of the latter county. Partington entered the family business which involved the production and processing of wood pulp for the manufacture of paper. He became a member of the firm of Olive and Partington, with paper mills in Glossop, Derbyshire and a director of the Kellner-Partington Paper Pulp Company. Baron Doverdale
Baron Doverdale, of Westwood Park in the County of Worcester, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 6 January 1917 for the industrialist and politician Sir Edward Partington. He was succeeded by his second but eldest surviving son, the second Baron. He represented High Peak and Shipley in Parliament. The title became extinct on the death of his childless son, the third Baron, on 18 January 1949. Herbert Partington (1868-1916), eldest son of the first Baron, was Mayor of Glossop. He predeceased his father, leaving only daughters. Westwood Park, Worcestershire
Westwood House is a stately home, near Droitwich, Worcestershire, England. It has been subdivided into twelve self-contained apartments. The house has origins as an Elizabethan banqueting hall with Caroline additions and is a Grade I listed building. It was for several centuries the seat of the Pakington family. Situated west of Droitwich, it lies in the centre of its former estate, Westwood Park, which is Grade II listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. With its four diagonal wings, added to the original, early-17th century house at some time later in the same century, the house's design was a precursor of the Butterfly plan which became popular in the 19th century.
