Eduardo Casey
Eduardo Casey was an Argentine born of Irish parents in 1847 in Buenos Aires. In 1880 he purchased of land in Santa Fe Province and founded there the present-day city of Venado Tuerto, named after a one-eyed deer that alerted early settlers to attacks by local Indians. He also helped in the founding and funding of the Argentine town of Pigüé, Saavedra in 1884. Pigüé () is a town in Argentina located in the Pampas, south-west of Buenos Aires. It was founded by 165 Occitan-speaking French immigrants from Aveyron (Avairon in occitan) and one Argentine of direct Irish descent on December 4, 1884. Wicklow ( ; ga, Cill Mhantáin , meaning 'church of the toothless one'; non, Víkingaló) is the county town of County Wicklow in Ireland. It is located south of Dublin on the east coast of the island. According to the 2016 census, it has a population of 10,584. The town is to the east of the M11 route between Dublin and Wexford. Lawrence Casey
Lawrence Bernard Brennan Casey (September 6, 1905 – June 15, 1977) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Paterson in New Jersey (1966–1977). He previously served as an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Rochester in New York (1954-1966). Biography Early life Lawrence Casey was born in Rochester, New York, to Joseph Leo and Agnes Madeline (née Switzer) Casey. He studied at St. Andrew's Preparatory Seminary from 1919 until 1924, when he entered St. Bernard's Seminary. Casey was ordained to the priesthood on June 7, 1930. After his ordination, he served as a curate at St. Mary's Parish in Rochester. He then served as secretary to Bishops John O'Hern (1932-1933), Edward Mooney (1933-1937), and James E. Kearney (1937-1946). Casey was named rector of Holy Cross Parish in 1946 and of Sacred Heart Cathedral, both in Rochester, in 1952. Venado Tuerto () (Spanish for ''One Eyed Deer'') is a city in the south-west of the , 322 km from the provincial capital. It has about 76,000 inhabitants (). History Venado Tuerto was founded on April 26, 1884 by Eduardo Casey, born in Lobos, Buenos Aires, in 1847. He was the son of two Irish immigrants who had amassed considerable wealth. Casey bought a large extension of land from where the natives had been recently expelled, to be employed for farming and horse breeding. The name of the town literally means ''one-eyed deer'', and its origin is unknown, though several folk legends circulate around it.
