Edmund W. Wells
Edmund William Wells (February 14, 1846 – July 4, 1938) was an American jurist, businessman, and politician. Known as "Arizona's first millionaire", he was considered the richest man in Arizona during his attempt to be elected Governor of Arizona. He served as Arizona Attorney General, Attorney General of the Arizona Territory before being appointed as a judge. He also served as a member of Arizona's constitutional convention. Background Wells was born to Edmund William and May Louise (Arnold) Wells on February 14, 1846, near Lancaster, Ohio. In 1852, his family moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he attended public schools. Following his mother's death when he was sixteen, Wells and his father traveled to Pike's Peak Country to prospect for gold. Failing to find riches, the pair moved south and arrived in Prescott, Arizona, Prescott, Arizona Territory on July 6, 1864. The senior Wells was appointed alcalde by Governor John N. Arizona Supreme Court
The Arizona Supreme Court is the state supreme court of the U.S. state of Arizona. Sitting in the Supreme Court building in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix, the court consists of a chief justice, a vice chief justice, and five associate justices. Each justice is appointed by the governor of Arizona from a list recommended by a bipartisan commission. Justices stand for Retention election, retention in an election two years after their appointment and then every six years. They Mandatory retirement, must retire at age 70. Court history The court started in 1912 with 3 justices. Alfred Franklin, Donald L. Cunningham, and Henry D. Ross took office on February 14, 1912 (Valentine's Day).
