The Edmonton Metropolitan Transit Services Commission (EMTSC) is a regional public transport, public transit service which serves eight municipalities within the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. The EMTSC is currently developing its operational and planning capabilities, with initial service delivery scheduled to begin in early 2023. Edmonton Metropolitan Region
The Edmonton Metropolitan Region (EMR), also commonly referred to as Greater Edmonton or Metro Edmonton, is a conglomeration of municipalities centred on Alberta's provincial capital of Edmonton. The EMR's commonly known boundaries are coincident with those of the Edmonton census metropolitan area (CMA) as delineated by Statistics Canada. However, its boundaries are defined differently for Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board administrative purposes. Devon, Alberta
Devon is a town in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is approximately southwest of Edmonton, the provincial capital, along the southern bank of the North Saskatchewan River. History Devon owes its existence to one of the largest oil discoveries in the world. On February 13, 1947, the Imperial Leduc No. 1 well struck oil, and the new town of Devon was constructed shortly thereafter by Imperial Oil to accommodate its workers. Leduc Transit is public bus system operated by the City of Leduc and Leduc County in the Edmonton Capital Region of Alberta, Canada. The service began on September 8, 2014. The capital investment was 5.16 million dollars CAD. GreenTRIP (Green Transit Initiatives Project), a provincial fund to assist public transportation projects, has contributed 3.44 million dollars CAD. Fort Sask Transit
Fort Sask Transit (FST) is a public transit service in the city of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. It operates two routes within the city, and a third route is contracted to Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) to connect with its service network. History Prior to the introduction of a local transit service, the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) operated a commuter route between Fort Saskatchewan and Edmonton's Clareview Transit Centre. The commuter route 198 (known as 580 since 2022), was launched in 2004. Mid-day service was cancelled in 2005 due to low demand, and this route was only operated during peak hours. Arc Card
The Arc card is a contactless smart card and automated fare collection system being introduced to transit services in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. The initial launch started in the last week of August, 2021, when U-Pass holders began receiving Arc Cards from their respective institutions. A pilot-testing period with 500 adult fare users began on 1 January, 2022, and the system opened to all adult fare-paying passengers on November 21, 2022. Discounted fare users and special groups will be onboarded to the Arc system at some point in 2023 during phase three, with the specific timeframe depending on the results of the previous phases. Stony Plain, Alberta
Stony Plain is a town in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by Parkland County. It is west of Edmonton adjacent to the City of Spruce Grove and sits on Treaty 6 land. Stony Plain is known for its many painted murals representing various periods, events and people throughout the town's history. The town was originally known as Dog Rump Creek. History The name of the town is believed to have come from one of two possible origins. The first is that the Stoney people camped in the area historically. The second possibility is that Dr. James Hector, a geologist on the Palliser Expedition, noticed boulders scattered across the area. The official name for the settlement was adopted in 1892. Spruce Grove is a city that is west of Edmonton, Alberta in Canada. The city is adjacent to the Town of Stony Plain and is surrounded by Parkland County.
