Edmondson High School
Edmondson-Westside High School is a public high school located in the southwest area known as Edmondson Village of Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The school is made up of two buildings, the Edmondson Building (located on Athol Avenue) which is used primarily for Academic Studies, and the Westside Building (located on Edmondson Avenue/ U.S. Route 40) which is used for Vocational and Technical Studies such as Culinary Arts, Child Care, Automotive, Media Technology, Computer Programming and Nursing. The Edmondson High building opened in September 1955, originally as Edmondson High School, a co-educational neighborhood comprehensive high school. The Westside Building several city blocks away, known originally as the Westside Skills Center, an independent separate school within the BCPS system, opened up in September 1980 to expand the high school, adding the former closed suburban branch of a local department store. Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association
The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (M.I.A.A.) is a boys' sports conference for private high schools generally located in the Baltimore metropolitan area but extending to various other regions, including the state's mostly rural Eastern Shore. The M.I.A.A. has 27 member schools and offers competition in 17 sports. In most sports, it offers multiple levels of competition, including Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshmen-Sophomore teams, and the conference is broken down by separate leagues in each. In addition, members are sorted in accordance to continual performance; categories include 'A', 'B', or 'C' Conferences. Teams of the Association (League) may move up or down according to their performance spanning over the course of a year or so to maintain the competition at appropriate levels. John Miller (pitcher)
John Ernest Miller (May 30, 1941 – June 5, 2020) was an American professional baseball player. He played in all or part of five seasons in Major League Baseball for the Baltimore Orioles between 1962 through 1967. Professional career Miller was originally signed as an amateur free agent before the 1961 season by the Baltimore Orioles and pitched his first game as a Big Leaguer at age 21. He was part of the 1966 World Series championship team, although he did not appear in the postseason. Plagued with shoulder problems throughout his career, his contract was purchased from the Orioles by the New York Mets on May 10, 1967, but he never appeared in a major league game for them, spending the remainder of the season with the Triple-A Jacksonville Suns. After spending 1968 with the independent High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms of the Carolina League, Miller retired. Stanton Kidd (born March 18, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Akita Northern Happinets of the Japanese B.League. He played college basketball for South Plains College, North Carolina Central University and Colorado State before playing professionally in Belgium, Germany, Turkey and for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Early life and college career Kidd attended Edmondson-Westside High School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists in his senior year, leading the Red Storm to their first-ever Baltimore City Division I championship. Kidd was named the team MVP his senior season and earned all-metro player honors.
