Ebony White
Ebony White is a fictional character from the 1940s syndicated newspaper comics series ''Spirit (comics character), The Spirit'', created by Will Eisner. He first appeared in the June 2, 1940 debut instalment of ''The Spirit'' and became one of the three major characters in the first nine years of ''The Spirit (comics character), The Spirit''s twelve-year run, until being phased out in late 1949. He is a Black people, black sidekick to Denny Colt, the title character. His age is ambiguous: throughout most of his nine-year run he's portrayed as a resourceful young boy around twelve years of age, while at the beginning of the strip he is clearly an adult who drives a Taxicab, taxi. He frequently helps The Spirit out of tough situations. Racial connotations The character is cited as an example of racial stereotype, stereotyping in mainstream 20th century United States culture. Spirit (comics Character)
The Spirit is a fictional masked crimefighter created by cartoonist Will Eisner. He first appeared June 2, 1940, as the main feature of a 16-page, tabloid (paper size), tabloid-sized, newsprint comic book insert distributed in the Sunday edition of Register and Tribune Syndicate newspapers; it was ultimately carried by 20 Sunday newspapers, with a combined circulation of five million copies during the 1940s. "The Spirit Section", as the insert was popularly known, continued until October 5, 1952. It generally included two other four-page strips (initially ''Mr. Mystic'' and ''Lady Luck (comics), Lady Luck''), plus filler material. Eisner, the overall editor, wrote and drew most Spirit entries, with the uncredited assistance of his studio of assistants and collaborators, though with Eisner's singular vision a unifying factor.
