Eben-Ezer (, ''’éḇen hā-‘ézer'', "the stone of help") is a location that is mentioned by the Books of Samuel as the scene of battles between the Israelites and Philistines. It is specified as having been less than a day's journey by foot from Shiloh, near Aphek, in the neighbourhood of Mizpah, near the western entrance of the pass of Bethoron. Its location has not been identified in modern times with much certainty, with some identifying it with Beit Iksa, and others with Dayr Aban. Ebenezer, Camp County, Texas
Ebenezer is an unincorporated community in Camp County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 55 in 2000. History The community was founded in the 1850s by Israel Braden Rape, Robert Devenport, and Thomas DeLaney, three settlers from Georgia. Rape founded a church and cemetery here. Ebenezer was primarily a farming community and has never had any businesses besides mills and cotton gins. The population was 60 in 1968. Ebenezer's population was 55 from 1983 through 2000. It had two churches and a cemetery in 1983. The community relied on the city of Pittsburg to provide it with groceries and other necessities. Geography Ebenezer is located on Farm to Market Road 557, southeast of Pittsburg. Education Israel Braden Rape founded a school called Rape's Academy and became the town's first school district. Ebenezer Colonies
The Ebenezer Colonies was a settlement founded by the Community of True Inspiration in what is now the town of West Seneca, New York. A congregation of Inspirationists emigrated to the site from Germany in 1843. The congregation began to relocate to Iowa in 1855, and the settlement's land was eventually abandoned and sold. History The Community of True Inspiration congregation in Alsace, France was led by Michael Krausert, Barbara Heinemann Landmann, and Christian Metz in the early 1800s. Due to internecine disputes, prosecution by local authorities, and agricultural difficulties, the congregation decided to emigrate to the United States. Metz and a committee of elders traveled to New York State and selected a site near the present West Seneca that had formerly been occupied by Seneca Indians. Ebenezer also known as Ton-y-Botel (Tune in a Bottle) is a famous Welsh hymn tune composed by Thomas John Williams A.T.S.C. (1869–1944) and extracted from the second movement of his anthem "Goleu Yn Y Glyn" (Light in the Valley). The tune was first published in 1897 in the periodical ''Yr Athraw'' ('The Teacher'), vol. 71, in tonic sol-fa notation, and its first appearance in a hymnal was in 1900, in ''The Baptist Book of Praise''. The famed English composer and music historian Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872–1958) referred to this as one of the greatest hymn tunes. As the musical editor Vaughan Williams included it in '' The English Hymnal'' in 1906. It is now published in 195 hymnals worldwide, including '' The New English Hymnal''. It alternates phrases of 8 and 7 notes. Ebenezer means "Stone of Help" in the Bible. The tune is named after Ebenezer Chapel in Rhos near Pontardawe, South Wales, which T. J. It is a re-telling of Charles Dickens' classic 1843 novella ''A Christmas Carol'' with Jack Palance giving a performance as Ebenezer Scrooge, á la Western genre.
