Eurovision Song Contest 1978
The Eurovision Song Contest 1978 was the 23rd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Paris, France, following the country's victory at the with the song "L'Oiseau et l'Enfant" by Marie Myriam. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (TF1), the contest was held at the Grand Amphitheatre inside the on 22 April 1978 and was directed by . The contest was presented by French television presenters Denise Fabre and Léon Zitrone. This was the first time that more than one presenter had hosted the contest as well as the first to have a male presenter since . Twenty countries participated, the highest number of competing countries in the history of the competition at the time. and both returned to the contest. Denise Fabre
Denise Fabre (born 5 September 1942) is a French former television personality, best known for her role as an in-vision continuity announcer. She is now municipal advisor to the presiding mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi. Biography Fabre, born in Cagnes-sur-Mer, began her career with Télé Monte Carlo in 1961 before she progressed to announcing work with Antenne 2 (now ''France 2'') and most famously, TF1, where Fabre was chief announcer until live continuity was axed in 1992. She co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 which was staged in Paris, as well as a variety of French television programmes during the 1970s and 1980s. Michael Trempenau (born 14 January 1961), better known as Mike Tramp, is a Danish singer songwriter and musician best known for his work with the glam metal band White Lion. In 1996, Mike Tramp launched his solo career, interrupted from 2004 to 2009 when he briefly reformed White Lion. Since then, he has regularly released solo albums and toured extensively. "Boom Boom" was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978, performed in Danish by Mabel. This was the first Danish entry at Eurovision since , an absence of twelve years. It was succeeded as Danish representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 by Tommy Seebach with " Disco Tango". Background The song is sung as a dialogue among friends, with one explaining that he is suffering from an illness. The others suggest what it could be, but he reports that a trip to the doctor resulted in a diagnosis of being in love – with the rhythm of the heart being the title of the song. In the late 70s Mabel moved their operation to Spain after gaining more notoriety when their catchy number "Boom Boom" was chosen as the official Danish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1978. Mabel was a Danish pop music group from Stenløse, Denmark. They came to prominence after winning the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix song contest with the song " Boom Boom" in 1978, and represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest the same year. The band were successful in Denmark and Spain. Mabel later became the metal band Studs, and disbanded in late 1982. Lead singer Mike Tramp went on to form White Lion in 1983. History Mabel were originally a band called The Cops formed by Chris Have, Otto Kulmbak (Andy Larsson), and Peter Nielsen while they were still in school in Stenløse. The band became the Mabel in 1972 and they released two singles with lead singer Gert Von Magnus. DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Richard Oesterreicher (10 November 1932 – 17 January 2023) was an Austrian conductor and jazz musician. Biography Born in Vienna on 10 November 1932, Oesterreicher was the son of a music teacher. He took an apprenticeship as a typesetter in 1947 before studying piano and guitar at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. Ireen Sheer (born 25 February 1949) is a German-English singer. She had her first major hit in 1970 with ''Hey Pleasure Man''. Milestones, also referred as The Milestones (per the Eurovision official web site), were an Austrian rock band, active between 1968 and 1975. They are known for their participation in the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest. 1968-1972 The band's original line up was Beatrix Neundlinger, Günter Grosslercher, Robert Unterweger and Rudi Tinsobin.
