European Figure Skating Championships
The European Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU). Medals are awarded in single skating, men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. The event is the sport's oldest competition. The first European Championships were held in 1891 in Hamburg, Germany, and featured one segment – compulsory figures – with seven competitors. They have been held since 1891 with only five interruptions. Women were allowed to compete for the first time in 1930, which was also when pair skating was added to the competition. Ice dance was added in 1954. Only eligible skaters from ISU member countries in Europe are allowed to compete, while skaters from countries outside of Europe instead compete in the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. List Of Figure Skating Competitions
Many international and national figure skating competitions are organized yearly. The three levels of ISU international competition are senior, junior, and advanced novice. Non-elite skaters may also compete in 'Adult' competitions. 'Professional' competitions were contested mainly by former elite skaters or sometimes a mix of eligible and ineligible skaters if sanctioned by the ISU. Irina Slutskaya
Irina Eduardovna Slutskaya ( rus, Ирина Эдуардовна Слуцкая, , ɪˈrʲinə ɪdʊˈardəvnə ˈslutskəjə, Ru-Irina Eduardovna Slutskaya.ogg; born 9 February 1979) is a Russian former figure skater. She is a two-time World champion (2002, 2005), two-time Olympic medalist (silver in 2002, bronze in 2006), seven-time European champion (1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006), a four-time Grand Prix Final champion (2000–2002, 2005) and a four-time Russian national champion (2000–2002, 2005). She won a record total of 17 titles on the Grand Prix circuit. Slutskaya, known for her athletic ability, was the first female skater to land a triple lutz-triple loop combination. She is also known for her trademark double Biellmann spin with a foot change, which she also invented. Henning Grenander
Henning Grenander (4 August 1874 – 11 March 1958) was a Swedish figure skater. Grenander was born on 4 August 1874 in Skövde, Sweden. He began attending a school in Stockholm when he was 8 and began learning how to skate when he was 11. He won a silver medal at the 1893 European Figure Skating Championships, but the results were declared invalid by ISU due to issues with the scoring rules. In 1898, he moved to London and worked at a Swedish bank. He won the gold medal at the 1898 World Figure Skating Championships and decided to stay in London after the games. He became a Swedish masseur and became involved with the National Skating Association. He helped plan the 1908 Summer Olympics and was a judge in the men's singles figure skating and men's special figures events. Aleksandr Georgievich Gorshkov (, 8 October 1946 – 17 November 2022) was a Russian ice dancer who competed internationally for the Soviet Union. With his wife Lyudmila Pakhomova, he was the Figure skating at the 1976 Winter Olympics, 1976 Olympic champion.
