Estanisláo Przewodowski
Estanisláo Przewodowski (22 October 1843 – 25 August 1903), also known as Estanislau Prezewodowski, was a Brazilian military officer and engineer. A veteran of the Uruguayan War, Uruguayan and Paraguayan War, Paraguayan wars, in which he fought for the Imperial Brazilian Navy and received several commendations, later being made commander of the Upper Uruguay Flotilla, based in Itaqui. Occupying this post, he became known for having ordered the bombardment of the Argentine city of Alvear, Corrientes, Alvear in 1874, causing a diplomatic crisis between the Brazil and Argentina in reaction to an aggression against a Brazilian doctor by Argentines. Despite being welcomed as a hero by the population of Rio Grande do Sul, he was dismissed from service for participating in the incident, being moved to the reserve with the rank of frigate captain. Battle Of Paso De Cuevas
The Battle of Paso de Cuevas was fought on 12 August 1865 during the Paraguayan invasion of the Argentine province of Corrientes. Following losses after the Battle of Riachuelo, and running the gauntlet set up by José María Bruguez at Bella Vista in the Battle of Paso de Mercedes the day before, the allied fleet advanced down the River Paraná, not wanting to be cut off from its supply base. However, the pass at Cuevas was once again manned by 3,000 of Bruguez's men with 34 guns. Barroso suffered 24 dead and 42 wounded. This was the last operation of naval combat of the Argentine Navy at war with foreign nations prior to the Falklands War. The Naval Flotilla of Alto Uruguay was a flotilla based in Itaqui and operating in Brazil from 1886 in Brazil, 1866 to 1906 in Brazil, 1906.
