Ernest Keppler
Ernest C. Keppler (April 5, 1918May 23, 2001) was an American lawyer, jurist, and Republican politician from the U.S. state of Wisconsin. He served six years (1979–1985) as a Wisconsin circuit court judge in Sheboygan County, after representing Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties in the Wisconsin State Senate for 18 years (1961–1979). Biography Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Keppler graduated from the University of Wisconsin and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Keppler served on the Sheboygan Common Council. In 1943, he served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Keppler served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. In 1961, Keppler began serving in the Wisconsin State Senate. Wisconsin Circuit Courts
The Wisconsin circuit courts are the general trial courts in the state of Wisconsin. There are currently 69 circuits in the state, divided into 10 judicial administrative districts. Circuit court judges hear and decide both civil and criminal cases. Each of the 249 circuit court judges are elected and serve six-year terms. On March 6, 2020, Governor Tony Evers signed bipartisan legislation to create 12 new circuit court branches, with four seats to be added each year from 2021 to 2023. Structure of the circuit courts The circuit court system is composed of 69 circuits, with 66 circuits serving a single county, and three circuits serving two counties each. Buffalo and Pepin counties share a circuit, as do Florence and Forest counties, and Shawano and Menominee counties. 26 circuit courts are served by a single judge. Wisconsin State Senate
The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly. Currently, Wisconsin is divided into 33 Senate Districts (1/3 of the current Assembly membership of 99) apportioned throughout the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 33 senators.
