Eraserheads
Eraserheads (sometimes stylized as ƎRASERHEADS or ƎRASƎRHƎADS) are a Filipino rock band formed in Quezon City in 1989. The band consists of lead singer and primary songwriter Ely Buendia, guitarist Marcus Adoro, bassist Buddy Zabala, and drummer Raimund Marasigan. Hailed as “the Beatles of the Philippines”, they are regarded as one of the most influential and successful bands in the country. The band released their debut album, '' Ultraelectromagneticpop!'', in 1993, to critical acclaim and strong sales. Followed by ''Circus'' (1994) and ''Cutterpillow'' (1995), the band ushered in a second wave of Philippine rock bands in the 1990s. They also received MTV Asia’s Viewers Choice Award at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City, the only Philippine artist to have received the award before the conception of the MTV Asia Awards. Ely Buendia
Ely Eleandre Basiño Buendia (born November 2, 1970) is a Filipino musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the alternative rock band Eraserheads, with whom he has released seven albums since their founding in 1989. Raised in Naga, Camarines Sur, Buendia attended University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City, where he met drummer Raimund Marasigan, bassist Buddy Zabala, and guitarist Marcus Adoro, with whom he would later form Eraserheads. Their debut album '' Ultraelectromagneticpop!'' (1993) ushered in a second wave of Philippine rock bands, and launched Buendia and the band to rock stardom. Buendia was the primary songwriter and creative voice behind the band's early albums, including ''Ultraelectromagneticpop!'', '' Circus'' (1994) and '' Cutterpillow'' (1995). ''Ultraelectromagneticpop!'' is the debut studio album by the Philippine alternative rock band Eraserheads, first released on July 1, 1993 by BMG Records (Pilipinas) Inc. It was produced by the band (credited as “Dem”) and Ed Formoso. Eraserheads formed in 1989 at University of the Philippines Diliman and signed a recording contract with BMG in 1992. They recorded ''Ultraelectromagneticpop!'' from July 1992 to April 1993. The recording was hampered by several reasons such as frequent brownouts and Formoso leaving the studio for undisclosed reasons. The album spawned hit singles such as " Ligaya”, “ Toyang”, and “Pare Ko”, best known for its explicit lyrics. ''Cutterpillow'' is the third studio album by the Philippine alternative rock band Eraserheads, released on December 8, 1995 through BMG Records (Pilipinas), Inc. It became the band’s most commercially successful album in the Philippines. To date, ''Cutterpillow'' has sold over 400,000 units in the country, becoming the third biggest-selling album in OPM history and the biggest for any Philippine band or group. Raimund Marasigan
Raimund Emmanuel Parcon Marasigan (born May 22, 1971) is a Filipino musician and record producer. He is best known as the drummer of the alternative rock band Eraserheads. Marasigan has been described as "the busiest man in the Pinoy music scene". Raised in Candelaria, Quezon, Marasigan attended University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City, where he met Ely Buendia, who had posted an audition notice for a new band. Inviting his fellow freshmen Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro, they would later form Eraserheads. Their debut album '' Ultraelectromagneticpop!'' ''Fruitcake'' is the fourth studio album by the Philippine alternative rock band Eraserheads, released on December 6, 1996 by BMG Records (Pilipinas), Inc. A Christmas concept album recorded in English, it tells the story of a little girl’s journey through Fruitcake Heights. It was accompanied by a storybook released the following year. Like the band's previous albums, ''Fruitcake'' became a commercial success but received mixed reviews. Concept The album was inspired by the Beatles album '' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'' (1967). It tells the story of a young girl named Frannie Wei who runs away from home with her dog Shadow. She finds herself in Fruitcake Heights, a town ruled by a group of people called the XMASCOM. Marcus Antonius Corpuz Adoro (born December 31, 1971) is a Filipino musician who was the lead guitarist of the Eraserheads, a Filipino alternative rock band in the 1990s. He is also known by the stage name or band name Markus Highway. He is also a member of Pi Omicron fraternity at University of Philippines - Diliman. Eraserheads During his days as lead guitarist for the Eraserheads, Adoro only had a few contributions when it came to songwriting. Buddy Zabala
Hector "Buddy" Avanceña Zabala (born November 13, 1971) is a Filipino musician and producer. He is currently the bassist of Filipino pop band Moonstar88, and widely known as the bassist and backing vocalist of the alternative rock band the Eraserheads. He also served as bassist to The Dawn and Hilera. Early life Zabala was born in Zamboanga City, Philippines, and attended University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City. Offshore Music
Offshore Music Philippines is an independent record label founded by Ely Buendia (of Eraserheads) in 2016. Offshore Music entered into a distribution agreement with Sony Music Philippines in 2023. History Buendia formed Offshore Music in 2016. He has also taken on sound engineer and executive producer roles in its subsequent releases, with the label's artists being able to record in Buendia's home recording studio Crow's Nest. The Mongols (band)
The Mongols were a Filipino underground band comprising Eraserheads vocalist Ely Buendia, Teeth guitarist Jerome Velasco, bassist Yanni Yuzon, and drummer Bogs Jugo. Formed after Buendia left Eraserheads in 2002, The Mongols released an album, '' Buddha's Pest'', in 2003. Velasco left the band soon after to study in the United States, and the rest of the band recruited Teeth guitarist Dok Sergio and renamed the band Pupil. History 2002–2003: Formation Buendia had left Eraserheads in March 2002. He later organized live shows with his friends, playing covers of his previous band, Teeth, and The Velvet Underground.
