Era Records
Era Records was an independent American record label located in Hollywood, California. History Era Records was founded by Herb Newman and Lou Bedell in March 1955 as a popular music, pop and rhythm and blues outlet. The label later expanded into the country music, country and western, and jazz genres. Newman formed Era after resigning his sales position at Decca Records. Era had a No. 1 hit in 1956 with Gogi Grant's "The Wayward Wind," for which Newman wrote the lyrics. In 1959 Bedell sold his interest in the label to Newman. Musicians with hits on Era include Ketty Lester ("Love Letters (song), Love Letters"), Larry Verne ("Mr. Custer"), Donnie Brooks ("Mission Bell (Donnie Brooks song), Mission Bell"), Dorsey Burnette ("Tall Oak Tree"), Art & Dotty Todd ("Chanson D' Amour"), and The Castells ("So This Is Love"). Dorsey Burnette
Dorsey William Burnett Jr. (December 28, 1932 – August 19, 1979) was an American early rockabilly singer. With his younger brother Johnny Burnette and a friend named Paul Burlison, he was a founding member of The Rock and Roll Trio. He is also the father of country musician and former Fleetwood Mac member Billy Burnette. Background and early career Dorsey William Burnett Jr. was born on December 28, 1932, to Willie Mae and Dorsey William Burnett Sr. in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The Teddy Bears
The Teddy Bears were an American pop music group. They were record producer Phil Spector's first vocal group. History Following graduation from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, California, Phil Spector became obsessed with " To Know Him Is to Love Him", a song he had written for his group, the Teddy Bears. After a hasty audition at Era Records, which offered to finance a studio session, the Teddy Bears – Phil Spector, Marshall Leib, Harvey Goldstein (who left the group early on), lead singer Annette Kleinbard, and last-minute recruit, drummer Sandy Nelson – recorded the song at Gold Star Studios at a cost of $75. Released on Era's Doré label in August 1958, it took two months before "To Know Him Is to Love Him" began to get airplay. Glen Glenn (singer)
Orin Glenn Troutman (October 24, 1934 – March 18, 2022), known professionally as Glen Glenn, was an American rockabilly singer, whose career began in the early 1950s and continued for several decades. Life and career He was born in Joplin, Missouri, and relocated with his parents to San Dimas, California, in 1948. In the early 1950s, he formed a duo with guitarist Gary Lambert, called the Missouri Mountain Boys, and began playing country music in bars in Los Angeles. They soon began performing on local television shows, and met singer and guitarist Eddie Cochran, who became a formative influence. Troutman began using the stage name Glen Trout, and began touring and recording demo records, often without Lambert. Bob Wilson (singer)
Bob Wilson (born Robert Douglas Wilson; 1940) is a totally blind singer, guitarist and songwriter from Pleasant Hill, California. He released three singles on the Hollywood-based label Era in 1960, including the original version of "And Her Name Is Scarlet", a song that later became popular in Australia. Early career Wilson was a member of the Pleasant Hill High School Big Band, which held its debut concert in February 1959. A review in the ''Oakland Tribune'' mentioned soloists who included Wilson on guitar, Loren Council on alto saxophone, and Len Adams on trumpet. On Wilson's first single, released early in the following year, Adams played piano and Council played saxophone. Both sides, "Two Little Birds" and "Imogene", were written by Adams and Wilson. Larry Vern Erickson (February 8, 1936 – October 8, 2013) was an American novelty song vocalist. Biography Verne recorded two U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart hit singles in 1960, "Mister Livingston" (No. 75) and " Mr. Custer" (No. 1, and No. 9 R&B). Larry Michael Smith was born on October 3,1939, and lived in several small towns in Kansas before moving to Hollywood in 1958. Smith first appeared on Decca Records in 1960 with a rockabilly backbeat song, "Sara Ruth" which was written as a joke for a high school friend. The Sentinals
The Sentinals were a surf rock band from San Luis Obispo, California (1961–1965). The band is notable for a Latino influence in some works, such as "Latin'ia" (1962). Notable band members included Tommy Nuñes, drummer John Barbata (later of The Turtles and Jefferson Starship) and Lee Michaels (then known as Michael Olsen) on keyboards. Ray, Goodman & Brown is an American R&B human voice, vocal band (music), group. The group originated as the Moments, who formed in the mid-1960s and whose greatest successes came in the 1970s with chart-topper, hits including "Love on a Two-Way Street", "Sexy Mama", and "Look at Me (I'm in Love)".
