Episesarma Versicolor
The violet vinegar crab (''Episesarma versicolor'') is a swimming crab species in the genus ''Episesarma''. Distributed all over marine and brackish waters of Indo-West Pacific regions. It is harvested by many local fishermen for rich proteinaceous food. Distribution A mangrove inhabitant, it is found all over Southeast Asian countries such as Southern China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, northern Australia and South Asian countries like Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. They also seem to possess an estimate of around 40 bony spine-like structures called tubercles. These are more pronounced in males and these tubercles like in other crab species that have them seemingly represent stridulatory organs used to create sound. Description The genus ''Episesarma'' comprises some of the largest sesarmid crabs. ''E. versicolor'' is distinguished by its white tipped violet chela (claw). Males grow up to a maximum length of 5 cm. The carapace is square-sh ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Sesarma Eumolpe
''Sesarma'' is a genus of terrestrial crabs endemic to the Americas. Many species within this genus live in mangroves. They have evolved to be fully terrestrial, which means they do not have to return to the sea even to spawn. Several species initially placed here are now placed in other genera of the Sesarmidae, and in some cases even elsewhere in the Grapsoidea The Grapsoidea are a superfamily of crabs; they are well known and contain many taxa which are terrestrial (land-living), semiterrestrial (taking to the sea only for reproduction), or limnic (living in fresh water). Som Tam
Green papaya salad is a spicy salad made from shredded unripe papaya. Originating in Laos, it is a national dish and a cornerstone of Lao cuisine, known locally as ''tam som'' or ''tam mak hoong''. The dish exemplifies bold, vibrant flavors, blending sour, spicy, salty, and sweet elements, and holds deep cultural significance in Laos. Green papaya salad is also widely popular in Thailand, particularly in the Isan region, which shares close ethnic and cultural ties with Laos due to its predominantly ethnic Lao population. Introduced to Thailand via Isan, the dish—called ''som tam'' in Thai—became a staple of Thai cuisine and spread nationwide. Beyond Laos and Thailand, green papaya salad has also gained regional prominence across continental Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam, as well as Xishuangbanna (China). Etymology The dish is deeply rooted in Lao cuisine, where it is traditionally called ''tam mak hoong'' (, , ) or ''tam som'' (, , ), in whic ...
