Elsbeth Steinheil
Elsbeth Steinheil (married name Franz) (10 July 1893 - 1955) was the first German woman to graduate in mechanical engineering, qualifying in 1917 from the Technical University of Munich. Early life and education Steinheil was born on 10 July 1893 in Munich, to Emmy (née von Voit) and physicist Rudolf Steinheil, the eldest of five daughters. Verena Wein-Wilke
Verena of Zurzach, also known as Saint Verena ( 260 – ), was an early Christian consecrated virgin and hermit. She is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Roman Catholic Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches. She is especially venerated in Switzerland, where her cult is attested in Bad Zurzach, the reported place of her burial, from at least the 5th century. Her feast is on 1 September. Legend The oldest tradition of the life of Verena is found in the so-called ''Vita prior'' by Hatto I, Hatto, the abbot of Reichenau Abbey, Reichenau (and later bishop of Mainz), written in c. 888. The younger ''Vita posterior'' was most likely written by a monk in Zurzach in the 11th century, the oldest extant copy dating to the 12th century. Carl August Von Steinheil
Carl August von Steinheil (12 October 1801 – 14 September 1870) was a German physicist, inventor, engineer and astronomer. Biography Steinheil was born in Ribeauvillé, Alsace. He studied law in Erlangen since 1821. He then studied astronomy in Göttingen and Königsberg. He continued his studies in astronomy and physics while living in his father's manor in Perlachseck near Munich. From 1832 to 1849, Steinheil was professor for mathematics and physics at the University of Munich. In July 1839, Steinheil demonstrated a photographic process at Nymphenburg Palace in the presence of Queen Therese. Several photographs had been exhibited by Steinheil throughout April and Summer 1839. The process has been commonly attributed to Steinheil, but research published in 2024 revealed that the earliest paper negatives had actually been created by Wolfgang Franz von Kobell in 1837, without any involvement of Steinheil.
