Lawrence E. Elkins High School, more commonly known as Elkins High School is a comprehensive public high school in Missouri City, Texas, that serves communities in Sugar Land and Missouri City. The school, which handles grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Fort Bend Independent School District. Elkins was established in 1992, with its first graduating class in 1995. Missouri City, Texas
Missouri City is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, within the metropolitan area. The city is mostly in Fort Bend County, with a small portion in Harris County. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 74,259, an increase over the figure of 67,358 tabulated in 2010. The National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) is the largest interscholastic speech and debate organization serving middle school and high school students in the United States. It was formed as the National Forensic League in 1925 by Bruno Ernst Jacob. History 20th century As a Ripon College student, Jacob created a pocket handbook, ''Suggestions for the Debater''. After becoming a professor at Ripon College, Jacob received a letter inquiring about the existence of a debate honor society. This led to the founding of the National Forensic League, with the earliest members joining on March 28, 1925. Mu Alpha Theta () is an International mathematics honor society for high school and two-year college students. As of June 2015, it served over 108,000 student members in over 2,200 chapters in the United States and 20 foreign countries. Texas Math And Science Coaches Association
The Texas Math and Science Coaches Association, or TMSCA, is an organization for coaches of academic University Interscholastic League teams in Texas elementary schools, middle schools and high schools, specifically those that compete in mathematics and science-related tests. Events There are four events in the TMSCA at the elementary, middle, and high school levels: Number Sense, General Mathematics, Calculator Applications, and General Science. Number Sense is an 80-question exam that students are given only 10 minutes to solve. Calculations can be done with a certain trick or shortcut that makes them feasible mentally. Additionally, no scratch work or paper calculations are allowed and almost everything has to be done mentally. Juliff, Texas
Juliff is an unincorporated community in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It is a part of the Greater Houston metropolitan area. History During the Antebellum (pre-Civil War) period, the area was within the Arcola Plantation. The community received its name from John J. Juliff, a settler. In the 1850s, the community served as a Brazos River shipping point. In 1858, the Houston Tap and Brazoria Railway opened in the community. In 1891, the community received a post office. In 1896, a general store appeared. The post office closed in 1908 and reopened in 1914. In 1933, a man named Thurman "Doc" Duke purchased several acres of land by the railroad line, opened a store, and leased the remaining land to other tenants.
