Elifelet (organization)
Elifelet - Citizens for Refugee Children () is a non-profit non-governmental educational and aid organization headquartered in Tel Aviv-Yafo which works to assist the youth and children of migrant workers, refugees, and foreign nationals in Israel, founded in 2013. Its founder is journalist and social activist . It was named after the poem "" by Nathan Alterman. Controversies In 2016 Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman ordered Israeli military not to take part in the activities that assist migrants, after Channel 10 reported that some soldiers were volunteering for Elifelet. Orthodox rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan supported this decision: "Israeli soldiers should volunteer for programs that benefit Israeli citizens". Tel Aviv-Yafo ( or , ; ), sometimes rendered as Tel Aviv-Jaffa, and usually referred to as just Tel Aviv, is the most populous city in the Gush Dan metropolitan area of Israel. Nathan Alterman
Nathan Alterman (; August 14, 1910 – March 28, 1970) was an Israeli poet, playwright, journalist, and translator. Though never holding any elected office, Alterman was highly influential in Labor Zionist politics, both before and after the establishment of the modern State of Israel in 1948. Biography Nathan Alterman was born in Warsaw, Poland (then part of the Russian Empire). In 1925, when he was 15 years old, the family moved to Tel Aviv and he continued his studies at the Herzliya Hebrew High School. When he was 19 years old, he travelled to Paris to study at the University of Paris (a.k.a. La Sorbonne), but a year later he decided to go to Nancy to study agronomy. Though maintaining close contacts with his family and friends in Tel Aviv and visiting them on vacations, Alterman spent three years in France and was highly influenced by his occasional meetings with French artists and writers. Avigdor Lieberman (, ; born 5 June 1958) is a Soviet-born Israeli politician who served as Minister of Finance between 2021 and 2022, having previously served twice as Deputy Prime Minister of Israel from 2006 to 2008 and 2009 to 2012. Channel 10 (), formerly known as Israel 10 (), was an Israeli free-to-air television channel. Operating under the auspices of The Second Authority for Television and Radio, Channel 10 was one of three commercial television channels in Israel (others being Keshet 12 and Reshet 13), enjoying an average audience rating of 6.5% in 2011 within its main news program. Despite the name, the channel was actually broadcast on channel 14 from 1 November 2017 until its closure on 16 January 2019. Channel 10 underwent a merger with rival network Reshet 13 (of Reshet), and this channel ceased transmissions on 16 January 2019. Some programs from Channel 10 moved over to Reshet 13.
