Elena Lasconi
Elena Valerica Lasconi (; born 20 April 1972) is a Romanian politician and former journalist. She is serving as the mayor of Câmpulung in Argeș County, having been elected in both the 2020 and 2024 elections. On 26 June 2024, she won the internal elections in the Save Romania Union (USR), becoming its president. USR elected her in a landslide as the party's frontrunner in the upcoming presidential election. Lasconi briefly led the list of USR candidates for the 2024 European Parliament elections, a position she resigned from at the request of the former party president, Cătălin Drulă. Lasconi placed second in the first round of the 2024 Romanian presidential election on 24 November 2024. She would have faced the independent Călin Georgescu in a runoff on 8 December 2024 had the first round not been annulled by the Constitutional Court. Save Romania Union
The Save Romania Union ( ro, Uniunea Salvați România, USR) is a liberal political party active in Romania and Moldova, currently the third largest party in the Parliament with 43 deputies and 22 senators, and fifth at national level (following the 2020 Romanian local elections), after the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) and the People's Movement Party (PMP), two smaller centre-right political parties in the country. The party was founded following the success of the Save Bucharest Union (USB) party in the 2016 local elections. ''Adevărul'' (; meaning "The Truth", formerly spelled ''Adevĕrul'') is a Romanian daily newspaper, based in Bucharest. BBC Schools
BBC Schools, also known as BBC for Schools and Colleges, is the educational programming strand set up by the BBC in 1957, broadcasting a range of educational programmes for children aged 5–16. Călin Georgescu (born 1962) is a Romanian senior expert in sustainable development, with an acknowledged recognition in the field, following 17 years of service in the environmental area in the United Nations system. Georgescu was appointed the executive director of the United Nations Global Sustainable Index Institute in Geneva and Vaduz for the period 2015–2016. Prior to that, he served as President of the European Research Centre for the Club of Rome (2013–2015). He is also member of the Club of Rome International in Switzerland.
