El Loa Airport
El Loa Airport (Spanish: ''Aeropuerto El Loa'') , is the major airport serving Calama, a city in the Antofagasta Region of Chile. It is one of the largest airports in Chile. The airport is from the city centre. It currently accommodates aircraft with a maximum wingspan of , so it is limited to receiving narrow body airliners like the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737. There are plans to construct a second runway with capacity to accommodate wide body jets and military aircraft. Facilities Passenger terminal A new passenger terminal was inaugurated in 2014. It includes three air bridges, an expanded apron and twelve commercial locations. In addition, there was extensive landscaping around the terminal and a new car park was built. Calama, Chile
Calama is a city and commune in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. It is the capital of El Loa Province, part of the Antofagasta Region. Calama is one of the driest cities in the world with average annual precipitation of just . The River Loa, Chile's longest, flows through the city. Calama has a population of 147,886 (2012 census). The commune also encompasses the Quechua communities of Estación San Pedro, Toconce and Cupo; and the Lickan-antay communities of Taira, Conchi Viejo, Lasana, San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, Aiquina-Turi, and Caspana. In 2003 the nearby town of Chuquicamata, once the largest open-pit copper mine in the world, was dismantled citing environmental reasons and encroachment from the mine's expansion. Carriel Sur International Airport is located in Talcahuano, Greater Concepción in the Bío Bío Region, 8 km (5 mi) from Concepción downtown.
