Manfred Eigen
Manfred Eigen (; 9 May 1927 – 6 February 2019) was a German biophysical chemist who won the 1967 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work on measuring fast chemical reactions. Eigen's research helped solve major problems in physical chemistry and aided in the understanding of chemical processes that occur in living organisms. In later years, he explored the biochemical roots of life and evolution. He worked to install a multidisciplinary program at the Max Planck Institute to study the underpinnings of life at the molecular level. His work was hailed for creating a new scientific and technological discipline: evolutionary biotechnology. Peter Eigen
Peter Eigen (born June 11, 1938) is a German lawyer, development economist, and civil society leader. Eigen founded Transparency International (TI) in 1993 and chaired the organization for 12 years, a non-governmental organization with national chapters in over 100 countries. TI promotes transparency and accountability in government, business, and international development. Early life and education The third of four children, Peter Eigen was born on 11 June 1938 in Augsburg, Nazi Germany, Germany, to Grete Eigen (born Müchler) and Fritz Eigen, an engineer by training and industry manager. Eigen spent his early childhood during the war in Berlin and in Czechoslovakia, where his father had been assigned by the Nazi regime to manage a large factory. Eigen-ji
is a Buddhist temple in the Eigenji-Takano neighborhood of the city of Higashiōmi, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. It is the head temple of one of the 14 autonomous branches of the Rinzai school of Japanese Zen History Eigen-ji was founded in 1361 by the famous poet and roshi Jakushitsu Genkō under the sponsorship of the ''shugo'' of Ōmi Province, Sasaki Ujinori. At its head, the temple had over 2000 priests and 56 chapels on the mountainside. During the Onin War, many priests from the Kyoto Gozan temple sought sanctuary at Eigen-ji; however, the temple burned down in 1492 and again in 1563 and fell into decline afterwards. Frauke Eigen (born 1969 in Aurich, West Germany) is a German photographer, photojournalist and artist. Early life Eigen studied at the Royal College of Art in London. Kosovo war photographs In 2000, while Eigen was working as a photo-journalist for a government relief organisation in Kosovo, she heard that mass graves were being exhumed, and went to see them. She saw the bodies of the people who had been killed in 'ethnic cleansing', and later on, their clothing and other belongings, which had been removed and washed. Eigen found the belongings more emotionally moving than the bodies, and decided to photograph them instead. These photographs became the basis for ''Fundstücke Kosovo (Kosovo Finds)''. In 2011–12, ''Fundstücke Kosovo'' featured in Imperial War Museum London's ''Women War Artists'' exhibition. Saint Eigen, also spelled Eurgen, Eurgain or Eurgan, was the legendary, and possibly historical first female Christian saint among the Britons. Her name has doubtfully been linked to two Welsh churches and is found in manuscripts from the collection of Iolo Morganwg making historical evidence of her existence dubious and limited.
