Edward Long (historian)
Edward Long (23 August 1734 – 13 March 1813) was a British judge and historian best known for writing a book about the history of Jamaica in 1774 that was heavily rooted in proslavery thought. Early life Long was the fourth son of Samuel Long (1700–1757) of Longville, Jamaica, son of Charles Long MP, and his wife Mary Tate, born 23 August 1734 at St. Blazey, in Cornwall. His great-grandfather, Samuel Long, had arrived on the island in 1655 as a lieutenant in the English army of conquest, and the family established itself as part of the island's governing planter elite. His sister, Catherine Maria Long, married Sir Henry Moore, 1st Baronet (Governor of Jamaica), and Long, in Jamaica from 1757, became his private secretary. In 1752, Long became a law student at Gray's Inn, and from 1757 until 1769 he was resident in Jamaica. Edward Henry Carroll Long
Edward Henry Carroll Long (September 28, 1808 – October 16, 1865) was a farmer, a lawyer, an American politician and a U.S. Representative from Maryland. Biography Born in Princess Anne, Maryland, Long was the son of Zadock and Leah Whittington Long; attended the common schools and graduated from Yale College in 1828. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1830, and commenced practice in Princess Anne. He was also engaged in agricultural pursuits. He married Amelia Roach and they had five children. Career Long was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1833 to 1835, 1839, 1844, and 1861. He served in the Maryland State Senate in 1860. Elected from the sixth district of Maryland as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth Congress, Long served from March 4, 1845, to March 3, 1847. Edward V
Edward V (2 November 1470 – ) was King of England from 9 April to 25 June 1483. He succeeded his father, Edward IV, upon the latter's death. Edward V was never crowned, and his brief reign was dominated by the influence of his uncle and Lord Protector, the Duke of Gloucester, who deposed him to reign as King Richard III; this was confirmed by the ''Titulus Regius'', an Act of Parliament which denounced any further claims through Edward IV's heirs by delegitimising Edward V and all of his siblings. This was later repealed by Henry VII, who subsequently married Elizabeth of York, Edward V's eldest sister. Edward V and his younger brother, Richard of Shrewsbury, are known as the Princes in the Tower. They disappeared after being sent to heavily guarded royal lodgings in the Tower of London.
