Eddie Blackburn
Edwin Huitson Blackburn (18 April 1957 – 20 April 2018) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played in the Football League for Hull City, York City and Hartlepool United, before he finished his career in the Swedish Allsvenskan with Halmstads BK. Career Born in Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, Blackburn started his career with Hull City as an apprentice in February 1973 before signing a professional contract in September 1974. He made 75 appearances for Hull in all competitions before becoming Barry Lyons' first signing for York City for a fee of £5,750 in April 1980. He finished his first season at the club being named Clubman of the Year as York finished bottom of the Fourth Division. After York signed Roger Jones in the summer of 1982 he joined Hartlepool United on loan in December, before joining the club permanently in January 1983. Houghton-le-Spring
Houghton-le-Spring ( ) is a town in the Sunderland district, in Tyne and Wear, England which has its recorded origins in Norman times. Historically in County Durham, it is now administered as part of the Tyne and Wear county. It lies between Durham, southwest and Sunderland, northeast. Seaham is also directly east. 1976–77 Football League
The 1976–77 season was the 78th completed season of The Football League. As of this season, goal difference (GD in league tables) was used to separate the clubs finishing level on points. The earlier system, used from the season 1894–95 until the 1975–76 had been the so-called goal average (goals scored divided by goals conceded), or more properly put, goal ratio. In case one or more teams had the same positive goal difference, this earlier system favoured those teams who had scored fewer goals. Now the system would favour the teams that had scored more goals, and it was hoped that more goals would be seen as a result of this new system. The season was also the first in which the referee used the yellow card and the red card, with the yellow to caution the offending player, and the red to show spectators and viewers that the player had been ejected from the game. Football League Trophy
The English Football League Trophy, officially known as the Vertu Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual English football knockout competition open to all clubs in EFL League One and EFL League Two and U-21 teams from the Premier League and the EFL Championship. Launched in the 1981–82 football season as the Football League Group Cup, it was a replacement for the Anglo-Scottish Cup, which had been discontinued after the withdrawal of Scottish League clubs. It reconstituted as Associate Members' Cup during the 1983–84 season. The 1986– 87 season was the 88th completed season of The Football League. Play-offs to determine promotion places were introduced in 1987 so that more clubs remained eligible for promotion closer to the end of the season, and at the same time to aid in the reduction over two years of the number of clubs in the First Division from 22 to 20. Liverpool had a successful first season under the management of Joe Fagan as they wrapped up their third successive league title and the 15th in their history. Ron Saunders completed the revival of Birmingham club Aston Villa, as they won the First Division for the first time in 71 years.
