Ed Walker (radio Personality)
Ed Walker (April 23, 1932 – October 26, 2015) was an American radio personality. He hosted a weekly four-hour Sunday night program, ''The Big Broadcast'', on WAMU, WAMU-FM, featuring vintage radio programs from the 1930s to 1950s, such as ''Gunsmoke'', ''The Jack Benny Show'', ''The Lone Ranger'', ''Fibber McGee and Molly'', and ''Superman''. Walker began hosting ''The Big Broadcast'' in 1990 when his friend John Hickman discontinued hosting due to illness; the show, which started in 1964 as ''Recollections'', was the longest running program on WAMU. The show ranked first in its timeslot, and its audience was "remarkably young for a public radio crowd." Edgar Lee Walker (March 25, 1901 – June 16, 1972) was an American football player, coach of football and basketball, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) from 1930 to 1937, compiling a record of 38–38–8. Walker was also the head basketball coach at Ole Miss from 1930 to 1935, tallying a mark of 46–36. Edgar Walker (August 28, 1917 – October 28, 2011) was an American veteran of World War II, businessman, publisher and writer. Walker was the penultimate surviving member of " Castner's Cutthroats", a regiment consisting of sixty-five men who performed reconnaissance missions in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Castner's Cutthroats was the unofficial name of the 1st Alaskan Combat Intelligence Platoon. Early life Walker was born on August 28, 1917, in San Juan Bautista, California. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1937 and was stationed for three years in the Territory of Hawaii. He soon became interested in Alaska through reading a library book about the territory and an article published in ''The Saturday Evening Post''. Edward Waller (June 14, 1889 – August 20, 1977) was an American stage, film and television actor. Early years Waller's involvement with dramatics began when he was a student at the University of Wisconsin. Career Stage Waller performed in vaudeville and the legitimate theater before he entered films in Hollywood. His professional stage debut came in Chicago, Illinois. An item published in ''The Indianapolis News'' May 3, 1923, reported, "He has had several years' experience as leading man and also as director, and produces the Grand Players' plays as well as taking the leading roles." Waller became noted for his character impersonations of elderly men on stage and screen. Film Waller appeared in more than 250 sound films between 1929 and 1963 (Thomas M.
