Eaton Family
The Eaton family is a Canadian family of Scottish-Irish Methodist origin. Established in Toronto, the family dynasty began in 1869 when Timothy Eaton (1834–1907) founded Eaton's, which became a national chain of department stores. At its height, the family's net worth was around $2 billion. Although the Eaton's department store chain went bankrupt in 1999, the family still holds considerable wealth. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and author Rod McQueen have dubbed them as "Canada's royal family", with the CBC describing the Eatons as "homegrown aristocracy", which drew comparisons to the influential Kennedy family. RMS ''Lusitania'' was a United Kingdom, British ocean liner launched by the Cunard Line in 1906. The Royal Mail Ship, the world's largest passenger ship until the completion of her sister three months later, in 1907 regained for Britain the Blue Riband appellation for the fastest Atlantic crossing, which had been held by German ships for a decade. During World War I, ''Lusitania'' was listed as Armed merchantmen, armed merchant cruiser (AMC) and carried both British munitions and US citizens on her 202nd trans-Atlantic crossing, when on 7 May 1915 at 14:10 off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland, the German submarine SM U-20 (Germany), ''U-20'' fired a single torpedo, triggering a second explosion and the sinking about 18 minutes later. George Eaton (racing Driver)
George Ross Eaton (born 12 November 1945) is a Canadian former racing driver who is a member of the prominent Eaton family. Life and career Eaton was born in Toronto, the youngest son of John and Signy Eaton. He gained attention as a Canadian race driver who participated in Can Am, Formula One and Formula A races. He served as president of the family company for ten years. Under his leadership, Eaton's continued its precipitous decline from its historic dominance in the Canadian retail market. His Formula One career with British Racing Motors included 13 World Championship Grands Prix and one non-Championship race, debuting on 5 October 1969. He scored no championship points. Nicole Eaton
Nicole Marie Eaton (''née'' Courtois; born January 21, 1945) is a former Canadian politician and a Conservative member of the Senate of Canada. A fundraiser for the Conservative Party, she was appointed on the advice of Stephen Harper to the Senate on December 22, 2008, her term starting on January 2, 2009. She was a trustee of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) from 1983 to 1989 and a director of the ROM Foundation from 1996 to 2002. ''Festival Express'' is a 2003 British documentary film about the 1970 train tour of the same name across Canada taken by some of North America's most popular rock bands, including Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band, Buddy Guy, Flying Burrito Bros, Ian & Sylvia's Great Speckled Bird, Mountain and Delaney & Bonnie & Friends. The High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom () is the diplomatic mission of Canada to the United Kingdom. It is housed at Canada House on Trafalgar Square in central London. History The Canadian high commission in London is Canada's oldest diplomatic posting, having been established in 1880. Canada House, in Trafalgar Square, became the site of the mission in 1923. In 1962, Canada also acquired the former American Embassy at 1, Grosvenor Square in London's Mayfair district, and it was renamed Macdonald House. Fredrik Stefan Eaton, (June 26, 1938 – February 20, 2021) was a Canadian businessman and philanthropist who was a member of the prominent Eaton family. He was the great-grandson of Eaton's department store founder Timothy Eaton. Life and career He was born in Toronto to John David Eaton and his wife, Signy Hildur Stefansson, and he was raised in the Forest Hill area. His mother was of Icelandic descent. He had three brothers – John Craig Eaton, Thor Edgar Eaton and George Ross Eaton. John Craig Eaton II (born May 30, 1937, in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian philanthropist and former businessman who is a member of the prominent Eaton family. Life and career He is the great-grandson of Timothy Eaton, founder of the former Eaton's department store chain. He is married to his third wife, Sally Horsfall Eaton, a philanthropist and former registered nurse. In his youth, Eaton attended Upper Canada College. He started working in the family business at Eaton's in 1954, becoming a director in 1967 and being appointed chairman of the board in 1969. Signy Stefansson Eaton
Signy Hildur Eaton (; July 1, 1913 – September 10, 1992) was a Canadian socialite, art collector and philanthropist. She was married to John David Eaton, of the Eaton family of Toronto. Biography Signy Hildur Stefansson was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Icelandic immigrants Fridrik Stefansson and Anna Olson. Her father emigrated from Iceland in 1876 and settled in New Iceland, Manitoba. He was a publisher and part-owner of ''Lögberg'', an Icelandic language newspaper. John David Eaton
John David Eaton (4 October 1909 – 4 August 1973) was a Canadian businessman and a member of the Eaton family (Toronto), Eaton family. From 1942–1969, he was president of Eaton's, the department store chain his grandfather, Timothy Eaton, founded. Early life and education Eaton was born in Toronto on 4 October 1909. Sarah Evelyn Florence "Flora", Lady Eaton, (''née'' McCrea; November 26, 1879 – July 9, 1970) was a Canadian socialite, philanthropist and nurse. Sir John Craig Eaton (April 28, 1876 – March 30, 1922) was a Canadians, Canadian businessman and a member of the prominent Eaton family (Toronto), Eaton family.
