Easton Cowan
Easton Christopher Cowan (born May 20, 2005) is a Canadian junior ice hockey player for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as a prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Cowan was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the first round, 28th overall, of the 2023 NHL entry draft. Early life Cowan was born in Strathroy, Ontario but moved to his grandparents' farm in the nearby town of Mount Brydges at age 13. His father, Chris, claims that he was named partially after the Easton hockey stick brand. Former NHL player Darren McCarty is his cousin. Playing career Cowan played with his local Strathroy minor ice hockey association before playing AAA with the local Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs until his midget year. Strathroy-Caradoc is a municipality located in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is west of London, Ontario, London. Strathroy-Caradoc is a primarily rural municipality. 2023–24 OHL Season
The 2023–24 OHL season was the 44th season of operation (43rd season of play) of the Ontario Hockey League. The league played a 68-game regular season which began on September 28, 2023 and concluded on March 24, 2024. The post-season began on March 28, 2024 and concluded on May 15, 2024. The London Knights won the J. Ross Robertson Cup and represented the Ontario Hockey League at the 2024 Memorial Cup. The Saginaw Spirit hosted 2024 Memorial Cup, which was held at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan. Saginaw and London faced each other in the Memorial Cup Final, with Saginaw winning 4–3 to win their first Memorial Cup in franchise history, as well as becoming only the third American team to win the Memorial Cup. Sam O'Reilly (born March 30, 2006) is a Canadian ice hockey player who plays for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as a prospect to the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). O'Reilly was drafted 32nd overall by the Oilers in the 2024 NHL entry draft. Playing career During the 2022–23 OHL season, 2022–23 season, he was scoreless in five regular season games for the London Knights. During the 2023–24 OHL season, 2023–24 season, in his first full season with the team, he recorded 20 goals and 36 assists in 68 regular season games. He ranked third among OHL freshmen in scoring. Doug Gilmour
Douglas Robert Gilmour (born June 25, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for seven different teams. Gilmour was a seventh round selection, 134th overall, of the St. Louis Blues at the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and recorded 1,414 points in 1,474 games in the NHL between 1983 and 2003. A two-time All-Star, he was a member of Calgary's 1989 Stanley Cup championship team and won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward in 1992–93. Internationally, he represented Canada three times during his career and was a member of the nation's 1987 Canada Cup championship team. The Memorial Cup All-Star Team is an annual selection of the best players at the Memorial Cup tournament. The Ed Chynoweth Trophy is awarded to the leading scorer at the Memorial Cup tournament. It was first awarded in 1996 Memorial Cup, 1996. In the case of a tie in points, the award is given to the player with the fewest games played. Should players tied in points have played the same number of games, the award goes to the player with the most goals scored. Amongst the three leagues, a player from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) has won the award eleven times, while players representing the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) have won the award nine times and the Western Hockey League (WHL) eight times. The Saginaw Spirit are a Junior ice hockey#Major junior, major junior ice hockey team based in Saginaw, Michigan, Saginaw, Michigan. 2024 Memorial Cup
The 2024 Memorial Cup (branded as the 2024 Memorial Cup presented by Dow for sponsorship reasons) was a four-team round-robin format ice hockey tournament held at Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan, United States. It was the 104th Memorial Cup championship which determined the champion of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). The tournament was hosted by the Saginaw Spirit, who won the right to host the tournament in March 2023. This was the first time that the Memorial Cup was held in Michigan, and it was the first time in the United States since 1998, which was held in Spokane, Washington. The Oshawa Generals are a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League. They are based in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The team is named for General Motors, an early sponsor (commercial), sponsor which has its Canadian headquarters in Oshawa. In November 2016, the General Motors Centre changed its name to Tribute Communities Centre. Its 184 graduates to the National Hockey League are second in the OHL.
