Eastern And Midland Region
The Eastern and Midland Region has been defined as a region in Ireland since 1 January 2015. It is a NUTS Level II statistical region of Ireland (coded IE06). NUTS 2 Regions may be classified as ''less developed regions'', ''transition regions'', or ''more developed regions'' to determine eligibility for funding under the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund Plus. In 2021, the Eastern and Midland Region was classified as a ''more developed region''. The Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly is composed of members nominated by the local authorities in the region. It is one of three Regional Assemblies in Ireland which were established in 2015 following an amendment to the Local Government Act 1991, replacing 8 Regional Authorities with 3 Regional Assemblies. 2022 Census Of Ireland
The 2022 census of Ireland was held on Sunday, 3 April 2022. It was organised by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and reported a total population of 5,149,139, or an 8.1% increase since the prior 2016 census. It is the highest population recorded in a census since 1841 and the first time the population exceeded five million since 1851. The census results were released gradually between May and December 2023 in a series of reports organised either as summaries or in-depth results of specific themes, like age, ethnicity, or religion. A census was originally planned for 18 April 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ireland's Ancient East () is a destination marketing brand representing the east coast, and parts of the midlands and south coasts, of Ireland. Midland Region, Ireland
The Midland Region (coded IE063) is a NUTS Level III statistical region of Ireland. It consists of the territory of the counties of Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Longford. The Midland Region spans 6,652 km2, 9.5% of the total area of the state and, according to the 2022 census, had a population of 317,999. Before 2014, the region was governed by the Midland Regional Authority. The Authority was abolished in 2014. Midland now exists as a strategic planning area within the Eastern and Midland Region.
