Edge Computing
Edge computing is a distributed computing model that brings computation and data storage closer to the sources of data. More broadly, it refers to any design that pushes computation physically closer to a user, so as to reduce the Latency (engineering), latency compared to when an application runs on a centralized data centre. The term began being used in the 1990s to describe Content Delivery Network, content delivery networks—these were used to deliver website and video content from servers located near users. Edge (educational Foundation)
Edge Foundation (styled as EDGE Foundation and also referred to simply as Edge on its website), is a UK-based educational foundation. In 2003, educational services provider Edexcel was partially sold to Pearson PLC. The trustees of Edexcel opted to use the proceeds of the sale to set up an educational foundation, and formed Edge in November 2004. The trustees of the foundation identified the promotion of practical and vocational learning as the new organisation's primary objective.
