E1000 Series
The E1000 locomotive, commonly known as the Push–pull train, PP ''Tze-chiang'', is a series of electric push-pull trains used by the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), operated as part of the Tze-chiang limited express, ''Tze-chiang'' limited express service. The locomotives were built by Union Carriage & Wagon and Alstom, GEC-Alsthom, while the Passenger car (rail), passenger cars were built by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Precision & Industries and Tang Eng Iron Works. History The E1000 series was built to replace the Taiwan Railway EMU100 series, EMU100 series. In 1994, the TRA came to an agreement with a South Korea, South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Precision & Industries to build 64 locomotives and 400 passenger cars for $7.2 billion New Taiwan dollar, NTD. Union Carriage & Wagon (UCW) is a rolling stock manufacturer in South Africa. It presently functions as one of the two South African subsidiaries of the French rolling stock manufacturer Alstom. History Union Carriage & Wagon was established in 1957. Initial shareholders were Commonwealth Engineering (51%), Budd Company (25%) and Leyland Motors (12%). Taiwan Railway EMU100 Series
The Taiwan Railway EMU100 series was a set of rail cars fabricated by British Rail Engineering Limited and the General Electric Company in 1976 that has operated in Taiwan. The alternating current electric multiple unit (EMU) fleet entered full squadron service in 1979, and was withdrawn from service in 2009. This class of railcars were the first to operate on the electric '' Tzu-Chiang Express''. A railway brake is a type of brake used on the cars of railway trains to enable deceleration, control acceleration (downhill) or to keep them immobile when parked.
