Dusty Hughes (baseball)
Dustin Robert "Dusty" Hughes (born June 29, 1982) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Career Kansas City Royals Hughes was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1st round of the 2003 MLB Draft. On September 6, 2009 Hughes made his Major League debut against the Los Angeles Angels. Hughes threw 4 innings in relief, allowing just one hit and struck out five batters. Minnesota Twins On January 26, 2011, Hughes was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins. He posted an ERA of 9.95 before being designated for assignment. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
